Unless yours is wore out or something you dont really have to. people do it for reassurance of not having one break. I did mine for that reason. steve

you dont have to but there is power to be had in compression. I would go with 11:1:devil: you may want to get h-d head studs too just for a bit more reassurance since some of them pull head studs which makes the headgasket blow and leak. You will like that with a stage 2 hotcam, with a good exhaust on it, get the crf450 chain, get a nice port and polish and it woud run nicely. steve

id go with a 416 11:1 comp.its alot cheaper and later on you can still bore out your cylender to a 426 instead of getting a new sleeve pressed in on the 440.

I would never jump all the way to a 440 and waste a good cylinder and have the possiblity that you may have problems down the road with it, i'm very happy with the power that my 416 dishes out and with a good ported head or even a stroked 416 would keep a smile on your face for a long time atleast for me it has so far.

After a 426 then I would definently go the extra mile and buy everything HD just so the thing dont go and nuke on you. Better to do stuff right the first time then to be without a bike because of motor issues.
