since i decided to start building another 250r, i set myself on getting the full 450r rear end. My question is with the way the container is mounted on the stock 450r shock, will this fit on a 250r frame with no problems? Im asking because 450r shocks are 10x cheaper than 250r and probably a little better also

to my knowledge it will work only if you eliminate the oem airbox setup and go with an alternate. i may be wrong.

I had asked about this once before and was told that it would not work.

yes it will work. you just have to grind off one of the airbox tabs, so obviously you can no longer run the airbox (no big loss)..
the 450r shock + linkages are a huge improvement over stock, makes for a much better ride

From what I was told before, this was not something that would work. But if it can be done then I may have to look back into doing this.

If you use a 450R rear shock, then you have to use 450R linkage from what I am reading.

Or will it work ok with the stock 250R linkage.

Will this work on an 89' Swing arm? If so, other than the modding the air box or loosing it, are there any other mods that need to be done? Any frame or swing arm mods?

thanks for all the input. Im going to try and make this work on this 250r im building. Do 450r a-arms work? I know 400ex ones do but will the 450r ones? I want to run 450r front shocks also (revalved of course). I know if I use the 250r a-arms with 450r shocks they feel like crap but I want a decent suspension for jumping

nope. the 450 a-arms wont work. 450r shocks(in stock form)are best suited for extended width a-arms but if used on stock width, the spring tenson should be softened.

btw: the old engine is doing fine but, i think she'll need a re-fresh at the end of the season.

thanks for the input again. Now what about shock linkage? Does anyone have a 450r shock laying around so they can see what linkage to use? Ill be running a 450r swingarm and rear shock, so should I use the 450r linkage? What about the one that runs to the frame on a 450r? Or is this question better suited in the 450r forum?

BTW I will be taking tons of pics and doing write up's on what works well off a 450r and what doesnt on the whole 250r. I know some of the stuff has been taken care of but some of it hasnt such as the rear shock

you have to use the same year swing arm, linkage and shock off of a 450r.

thats what I needed to know. Thanks a lot. Also this means I can use Elka's MX linkage right? Since its full 450r in the rear? Just seeing how much I can upgrade down the road when the time comes

you have to use the same year linkage, watch that you dont mix up years cause the lengths are different

so far I have and 05 swingarm, 05 rear shock, and am ordering the linkage shortly, so 04 will not work? I know 06 and up they changed stuff and its not compatible with the 04-05

ok guys, ive been doing some heavy research and im puzzled. Everyone is claiming that the full 450r setup isnt working properly but I just think that I can get it to work right. They claim that when all bolted up it sits about 3" higher than stock. That wouldnt bother me at all but then again i wouldnt want a top heavy quad. Now my question is does anyone seeing this working with a 450r stock shock, and a GTT rear shock linkage?

alright guys, I found an adjustable shock linkage that I think will work great with this setup. Im ordering it and will try it out. Ill post up how it goes in the 450r swingarm conversion thread

the adjustable linkage works sweet, the cheap way is to lengthen the stock linkage..
you'll be glad you did the swap once you ride it

is the setup decent for jumping? My stock 250r shock sucked balls for jumping. Im going to put some good front shocks on the front also (have stockers now). Do you have this setup, if so any pics of it? Which carrier did you use?
