my quad is in the dealer right now to get 3rd gear looked at, i think i might have broken mine but i'd want to double check with you guys first. my Dealer says the common problems are the bike pulling itself out of 3rd or not even going into, and/or bypassing 3rd all togeather, but mine just ticks in 3rd, all the way through the powerband, my dealer said if theres anything wrong suzuki will cover it, but if nothing is wrong i have to pay for it... i think the ticking could be from a missing tooth? it doesnt make as much power in third and the ticking slowly got louder untill i decided to not even ride it. what are youre 3rd gear problems? could this be a sign of a crack or a missing tooth? its only 3rd, so the chain and clutch are out of the question... PLEASE! help me!

yea the gear is prolly worn or missing teeth

I blew third in my bike too. It sounded like i had something loose on my bike rattling if that helps. Of coarse it was coming from the motor.

250X, thats exactly what mine sounds like. like a loose chain or missing teeth, but only in 3rd.

make sure if they replace it to use the new 09 gears they changed them

the 09 gears are only a temproary fix. they will go out again sooner or later just like the stock 08 gears. atp billet 3rd gears

Yup same here pulled motor apart found I was missing 3 to 5 teeth. on third also noticed shift forks were used and abused

250X: did you just get suzuki forks and a gear or an ATP gear and Hinson Forks?

does it make that sound when the chain is off? I thought my tranny was going out, but when I took the chain off and let it run, it didn't make a sound.

it cant be in the chain if it only does it in third.

perhaps, but you never know. Does it do it in third gear with the chain off?

I'm wondering if mine is going south also...once off the line on MX starts mine will not go into 3rd with a couple pulls till the revs wind down a bit then it will shift. Makes getting the holeshot a bit tuff. Has anyone experienced this?

Nope I bought another 06 Tranny used it was in pretty good shape and it only cost me about 60 bucks and I have a mechanic in the family that helped me out greatly. The ATP tranny is the way to go if you got 500 bucks to drop on it.

well, i got the quad back today... they told me it was the chain, and it was too loose, so i decided to do it my self so i wouldnt have to pay them, well, turns out its NOT the chain! after tightening it it still ticks, and it is deff. comming from the tranny. its in third all the way through the rev's, not in 2nd, or 4th or 5th or 1st. only 3rd.

BTW: 250X, im selling my Foreman 500, so i would be able to throw an ATP on her, would you recomend it if you had the money? should i also throw in a clutch basket and new plates??
a cam would be cool, but handling is a must too.

BTBTW: also got my full yosh in her today!! sounds mean! pulls hard!

I just replaced 3rd gear in mine. It sounded EXACTLY like a loose chain but 3rd gear had 3 teeth missing off of it. Sounds like you might need a new dealer.

I would go with a ATP or any of the companys that do this service. I am saving up for a stage three from Yosh. They do all the motor work and tranny service for like 3 Grand kick start conversion the whole deal.

now thats just crazee!!

i'll prolly do a cheaper rout, i need to put some D'oh in for a pair of floats and a damper, and new wheels/tires. i bottomed hard today over shooting and casing the same double on my practice track two different times. when i cased it i snapped the plastic on my stock heel guards, danm, i need my nerfs to come in soon!

im going to take it back there to get FIXED this time, they told me they'd do ot for free!

no affence but yosh motors suck. ive rode a bike with stage 3 the tranny work and kick-start then got back on my bike with atp motor and there is a noticable difference

I haven't had a chance to ride one with yosh work but I have seen what they do at the nationals :D. I know that I can't get the motorwork that those guys do but I have had an exhuast thats a yosh and love it. I hear ATP does great work too, not putting anybody down because they all do better work than me!!!

Actually it broke last weekend. The 09 gear set lasted longer than the 08's but they still broke.:ermm:

oh no, are you serious? im going to get mine fixed soon but i want it to last!

BTW: i dont think i am getting any motor work done, mabey just a cam and a clutch basket. and i love my Yoshimura exhaust. i had a Dasa, but i like the yosh more.

quit wasting your money on stock gears and get atp's billet 3rd gears. tranny went in 07 over a year ago and i put them in my 08 as soon as i picked it up. never had a problem

You should line up the holes in the shafts with the holes in the collars. That keeps the shafts oiled. You could cause major heat and friction and lock the collar to the shaft. I would definately take the time to make sure.

Also double check the your circlips are facing beveled side towards the washers.

You,ll be going from 3rd gear problem on your ltr to hondas crank/frame problems!Go take a look at the problems in 450r forum and then make your decision. I would definitly keep ltr over 450r .

there is not a wide spread problem with the cranks on the hondas. the problem is that most people dont keep enough oil in them. if they would read there owners manual it tells you that todays modern 4 strokes use some oil and you have to stay on top of it or you will have problems. all bikes will break frames sooner or later when taking massive abuse. i personally now alot of people with 04 -09 that havent had a single problem with these bikes. i am not saying that there hasnt been some issues but i am in the buisness and the hondas have been proven alot more reliable than any other make of quad. the ktms are holding up well also but they are still pretty new.

Crap. The ticking in my 3rd gear has been getting really bad lately. This next harescramble might be her last.

Your giving up one quad with tranny problems for another with tranny problems. The 06 and up Hondas have tranny problems as well.
