is there any benefit to this besides getting more crap shot at your face?

Better aerodynamics and to some degree, a better view of the trail?

I have a friend who swears he rides better with shaved fenders because he can "see better"...

well from someone whos autocrossed and road raced his car, i can tell youthat if your friend is reading the trail at the wheel hes likely to crash. lol. you gotta be able to read a trail up to the next turn and not just look at it as your crossing it. makes no sense. i havent cut the plastics on mine and i have no problems ripping tight trails. its not like the plastic is huge and obstructing the view of everything. from the looks of it its an asthetic thing only. aero dynamics probably wont come into play at the speeds people ride trails at. not trying to come off as a dick so please dont think of it like that but it just doesnt make sense to me. if anythign id like to find a way to keep less mud from hitting me in the face when im hammering up a trail :)

Race cuts would create less drag on the bike but I really dont think it would be enough to worry about.

Its mostly a look thing in the long run.

I totally agree with that as well. NEVER read the trail at the tires when watching your tires you will tend to track that way and not realise it. Keep your eyes focuse forward and give a **** what your tires are doing.

Next time your riding and going through tight trees if you watch the trees you will hit them lmao sound stupid I know a few guys on here learned the hard way with some bent or broken a arms.

First off they look way better IMO, also when your going slow trying to navigate tight spots it does help to see your tires. I agree that when your haulin through the trails you definitely dont look at your tires you look ahead of you. Also i dont notice that there is anymore stuff that hit you front the lack of fenders.

Yes, the support brackets are still used, unless you cut them completely off.
