To Anyone who burns DVDs!

This is the first time im trying to burn a DVD on my computer. Im using "Simple"DVD Maker. It says to click and drag the file onto the window. I do that but the file doesent show up. Do I have to change the file type??? Or does it have to do with the codec'??? Thanks a lot.

don't qoute me on this but i think dvd format is .avi and i know you have to change the format into .mpeg. But copying a dvd does take a bit of time, i'm talking hours here.
