What kind of racing do you want to do? I'm assuming motocross because you said you have an extended axle...

Tether killswitch if you don't have one. Pretty much every track requires one.

You probably want nerf bars if you don't have them already. and you NEED some suspension in the front end!!

Good luck :(

Also I think the parking brake block off kits are about 15bucks. easy mod and you get rid of a bunch of cable and stuff. worth the price.

Racing's NOT inexpensive, love ;)

yo, the best thing to do is: if you have the head light, loose it. you normally will never use it on a track. Also get rid of the parking break, and reverse, it takes to much time trying to get it in reverse then back in drive. i took mine off and it releaves a lot of cables and a lillte weight. also, i would suggest a 12 tooth sprocket in the front, this will give you more accceleration, but less top speed, better for track and trails. it is also good to buy an o-ring chain is you are not currently running one. put a big bore kit (330) with a "i think" 38mm carb. not sure exactly what the big bore asks for. a stage 1 cam works well. jet your carb and try and find a less restrictive header and a muffler. i run the DG RCM. its kinda loud. real loud, but the response is one of the best i felt. some good tires that i like are the ITP QUADCROSS MX PRO. they allow you to swing out the rear and get goot bite on the straights, they also have an almost flat top in the front for more controll. also, one thing people dont think about is buying light weight alumnium rims. this saves on weight compared to the steel wheels that come stock. and if you have the money, i would invest on some new shocks to help out the ride and too much compression on the jumps. get some with resivoirs. also, not super necessary would be a steering stabilizer. and maybe a pad for the front bars incase you wreck and hit you head or face.

if i think of anything else i will put it on here, but have fun and hope this helps.:chinese:

also, do you have a widening kit, or just wheel spacers? they have a site called http://diamondjcustoms.com/new/index.htm

you can type in "300ex widening" and they have the kits "buy it now" cheaper on there.

i prolly will keep the light? maybe remove the light and get a lighter one.. but i ride to much at night and i have alot of groves around my house ..witch also i wouldnt remove the reverse... i mud with it when im messin around with friends but with the big bore kit whats that for? what would proly b the easyiest thing to install.. im just starting to work on my quads.. i normally put it in the shop but im wanttin to start doin all this stuf myself.. im not woried about weight right now.. i have nerf bars.. i have a DG front bumper.. i think its dg..
i do not have an exhaust yet... my axles are widerr. i have 400 ex shocks + A- arms on it... but any ideas on what would be the best thing to put on that i will actualy notice besides a exhaust..
maybe a new sprocket? not to smart yet about how to work on quads quite yet.. but i for sure kno how to ride one lol

take off the head light, reverse, and parking break. o-ring chain, less restirictive heder and DG RCM exaust. light weight alumnium rims, itp Quadcross mx pro tires. a 330 bore kit with a 38mm carb, jet kit, and a stage 1 cam.

i just wrote a big paragraph on the facts, but comp ffroze and lost it.

diamondjcustoms.com had wisening kits, but look on ebay, 300ex widening. also a 12 tooth sprocket for front. will incresase acceleration, but cut down on top speed. good for track and trails.

Also your going to be limited to the engine mods you can do if your not willing to instal an exhaust system. Even if you get a Cobra exhaust for 150 bucks it will still help a little.

so i should get an exhaust then start modding it out?

300exrider26

also, do i need a full exhaust system? or would a slip on work?

yes start with your filter and exhaust and then jet it. Don't run the bike with an exhaust and filter without jetting it your bike will run lean. to do the jetting just read the how to's and it will show you how. you want to buy a few different sizes of jets at once so you don't have to wait a week if the one you installed is too small. you stock jetting should be a 38 pilot jet and a 122 main jet. I buy all of mine from jetsRus.com they are the best IMO. But keep in mind that your running a keihin carb. A 122 dyno jet is not the same as a 122 keihin jet. sounds confusing but you'll get it soon. After that I would get a CDI unit. Keep in mind that a unit for and 06+ 300ex is not the same as an 05- year. your bike will screw up if you put the wrong one on. and then go with a cam. most brands have different stages depending on where you want the power delivery (low end, mid range, or top end) and I would suggest getting a CLYMER shop manual for the 300ex. this will give you step by step instructions on how to take things apart and put them back together with torque specs and so on.

Hope this Helps sorry for the long post if I missed something someone help me out.

A slip on will work but a full system will give you maximum air flow.

300exrider26
05-09-2009, 12:26 PM
so if i get a exhaust and air filter i must jet the carb?
i was told to buy an 400ex carb.
dang i dont think i wil be able to do all that by my self lol

Tommy Warren
05-09-2009, 12:27 PM
yeah a 400ex carb has better throttle response but I'm not sure how to jet them. I'm sure someone here knows.

bobizzle

i ran slip on until the header came in and there was a little increase, once jet and air filter it was more noticible.

300exrider26
05-09-2009, 12:29 PM
lol alright.. in the mean time can i get the exhaust and filter.. and ride still cuz im not guna be able to do al this at once lol... will it ruin anything or like that?

Tommy Warren
05-09-2009, 12:31 PM
also yes you must jet the carb. generally if you just have an exhaust and an air filter your jets should go from a 38 pilot and 122 main to about a 40 pilot and 128 main but it differs depending on your altitude and temperature in the area you live in. but 40/128 is where I would start.

Tommy Warren

If you run with just the air filter and exhaust you will be running lean. meaning you have more air going through your motor than fuel. This will make your bike run hotter and possibly burn piston rings ect. Thats why the jets are important. If your allowing more air into the motor you need to balance it out with fuel.

i live in sunny florida so wil it be ok? lol i wont be able to tell the diffrence if they work or not will i?

bobizzle
05-09-2009, 12:34 PM
if you run just a slip on and filter, it wont ruin anything. the diffrence that you will feel is when you jet it. and if you get a header. most ppl i know ride stock header with a aftermarket muffler, filter and jet kit

bobizzle
05-09-2009, 12:36 PM
i live in LA, so the altitude is about the same. jet it 40, 128 and you should be good. try and find a mechanic shop and see how much they will charge for jets. i found one and he charged me $3 a piece.

300exrider26
05-09-2009, 12:39 PM
im gunna get a full exhaust system and k&n air filter...so that means im gunna have to jet it and i will get the 40 . 128
whats a header? whats it for?

300exrider26
05-09-2009, 12:43 PM
lol sorry if im asking to many question people!

Tommy Warren
05-09-2009, 12:43 PM
a header is the pipe that connects your slip on the motor

300exrider26
05-09-2009, 12:49 PM
lol kool guys think i got it now gunna buy full exhaust, air filter, and rejet the carb..
