a bunch of us are trying to introduce our friend into atv's. he has never ridden one but he has owned motorcycles an r6 so he knows somewhat what he is doing. i originally wanted him to get a raptor 350 but its clearly out of his price range. so then the dealership offered us a raptor 250 for 2000 dollars. which to me seems like a good deal but the quad just seems really small to me. he is about 5'4 or 5'5 in height skinny guy. and he sat on it and it seemd decent. so what is the deal? does this thing have enough ponies to be able for him to ride with us on 450's? im not saying racing obviously but trail riding. to me 250 is extremly small but iv grown up around atv's. and the salesman said they actually are good machines for beginners which my friend is. so for the price i cant imagin him loosing that much money if he decides to sell it in a year to get a bigger one. im just wondering how these things handle and do they get caught up easily on trails and do they have the power he would need to ride with us

I think the bike would be pretty good for him. If he is into crotch rockets it probably won't be long until he needs more power. But for a begginer bike its perfect. They are a lot faster than you would think and the stock suspension will be all you need for trails. I'm 5'11 175lbs I ride a 300ex and it has no trouble haulin my big arse around the trails. And for 2000 you have nothing to lose because in a year if he wants to upgrade he could still get about 1500-2000 for the bike.

thats what im thinking. im half tempted to buy one myself to mess around on. lol i mean 2 grand? where can you get a new atv for that? and even if he ends up liking the sport and wants more power i would think he could still get most of his money back and use as a down payment. i was just concened with him not having fun becase he wouldnt be able to keep up but the more i research and more i ask about them the more good things i hear. ultimetly id like him to be on a 350 but like i said the new prices are more than he has to spend right now. and even used are too.

My 10 year old daughter rides the crap out of hers. I honestly think you need to look at a bigger quad. Even if he has to buy used. All I know is it really sucks to have more talent than bike. My wife is just starting out and I put her on a used 05 yfz 450. She can't use all of it yet but at least I know she wont run out of power and get bored. Jmo AS for the quality of the 250, You wont find a better quad for the price. I'm extremely happy with it.

so in other words you get it for 2000 if you by 2 of them for 4000. Am I correct? If thats the case it's not a bad deal if somebody wants two of em. but if you only want one then what?

If you want one then buy 2 for 4000 and sell one for 2500 that way you pay 1500 for your brand new one.;)

yes exzactly. you buy one techniqly at retail which is "x" amount and they give you one for free. but i told them i just want one and they said they would give it for 2000. even the dealer said you could sell the other one and make a good chunck back. and they offered me 6 months 0 interest. lol

if he is used to a crotch rocket, he wont enjoy a raptor 250 for long. his best bet is a used 400ex, unless he just likes the feel of a raptor better. i love mine, but i dont race anything bigger than a raptor 350, if i did, i would be on a bigger quad
