Well I've just ordered a Hot Cam valve shim kit, since my valves are out of adjustment. I am just wondering if there are any tricks for shimming them? I have a Clymers book but it has like 3 pages of what to do I just dont want to keep reading it over and over until I understand how to find the correct shim.

For example using exhaust specs. Same is true for intake. This is hypothetical. Just put your measurements in place of the following....

Desired exhaust clearance spec = .25mm
Current exhaust clearance measurement = .17mm <----your measurement here.
Current shim size = 2.85mm. <----your current shim size here.

Desired - measured = difference. so lets say (taking the values above).....
.25mm - .17mm = .08mm of difference.

.08mm is how much out of spec you are(hypothetical).

Now, Hotcams shims only come in .05 increments. since .08 is closer to 1.0 than .05 use that value.

2.85mm (current hypothetical shim size) - .1mm (difference) = 2.75 (shim needed to meet spec.)

The larger the shim, the smaller the clearance. The smaller the shim, the larger the clearance.

Thank you that makes sense now
