the yfz shocks are a little shorter than stock and the r shocks are a little longer. the yfz shocks take a little more work to get them to fit right than the r shocks.ive heard the r shocks are to stiff unless your getting them revalved which is why i went with the yfz shocks.the yfz shocks are also alot easier to find for cheap.ive never ridden with the r shocks but the yfz ones handle great.

no,the 450r rear shock isnt better than the ex one

i'll agree. i am right at the end of the valving now that i'm running +2 arms, but they're still awesome.

I have +2 arms and 450r shocks and they feel really good, but I'm also about 210 lbs with gear. If you're going to get arms anyway, I'd say go with the 450r shocks. The YFZ shocks make a 400ex look like a stink bug.

450r shocks look like poop without a revalve... They make your quad look like a monster truck. Get yfz's....

Any body know if these: http://www.quadtech-atv.com/pages/products/sps2-00-plc.html
would fit on stock shocks. It would look awesome. I doubt it works but just wondering.

yfz shocks are not even close to the right length, ride height, or travel which are all very important to how a shock preforms. 450r shocks are close to what the 400ex requires.

And if you send them to gt thunder to get there revalve, rebuild they are an awesome shock. But now you can get HLS shocks for cheaper than buying 450r shocks and getting them revalved.

I have the yfzs on my machine and i absolutely love them. They were a bit tough to get to fit right but the result was well worth it. The machine corners a ton better and jumps land much smotter than before. I have two of my buddies that i ride with that put elkas on their machines and mine seems so be pretty comparable to how their front ends feel

anything is better than the stock shocks but if you ride aggressivly you need a shock that is actually the right size. Also Elkas are horrible shocks the valving is very bad on them. yfz shocks are WAY to short for the 400ex. You loose some travel and the quad doesn't sit right. If you rode a quad with the proper set up you would understand the difference.

im still trying to decide between the yfz's or the r's. i am only fifteen so i wont be able to revalve/reshock for a while. I am leaning toward the yfz's cuz i only way 135 in full gear and heard the r's are stiff even for a 200 pound rider. is that the right choice? STOCK for STOCK? I ride dunes and race.

I have 09 450r shocks on my 400ex. it only raised the front about an inch and all i did was adjust the shocks to lower it back down. and i love them. as far as the rear shock goes the 450r shock is not an upgrade at all the 400ex rear shock is a good rebuildable shock

clarence, if you're running stock arms, weigh 135, and race MX i'd go with YFZ's; i am 195 and ride dunes and MX-style, with +2 arms, and they work good, a little soft... so they'd be perfect for you.
