lol...

Nope, a new 08. KTM gives you like $1600 in extra goodies until May 31. Plus the dealer gave a coupon for Baldwin motorsports to do a full port/polish and titainium valve job. :D

I have been a loyal Honda man from day 1 but I couldn't pass up the deal I got.

I hope not! lol...

My Honda has never left me stranded, I hope to have the same luck on the KTM:D

I had to move up in power and couldn't build a 450r as cheap. KTM puts out some HP and the port job is supposed to be good for 5-7 more.:eek2:

The Hounds of Hell have been released,...
They have your scent, and they have not been fed for 4 days....

you better hope that KTM is fast!

(Gee, you don't sense any jealousy on my part, do you?)
hope you enjoy your new ride.

I kinda felt like I sold my soul leaving Honda but I feel my 440 is built as far as it will go and still be super reliable. I just give up too much HP to all the modded 450's on the desert races.

Check out the KTM link above for the list of stuff.

I got the XC and plan to run the SX a-arms to get the 50" width. It seems to be a pretty good set up.

Well I went to the track with both rides, I didn't push the KTM too hard. (still need to break in the motor a bit) I like they ergo of the bike, it feels good sitting on it.
They come from the factory sitting pretty high and like an inch of toe in :eek2: So, needless to say it felt a bit weird compared to the 440 sitting 7" off the ground and the suspesion set just right.

Track conditions were deep power robbing loam. The 440 and my buddies YFZ were bogging out of the corners. I took out the KTM and it does have a ton of power, even in stock form.
The front brakes are almost too good(they are 4 piston), I just about went over the bars.

Soon as I am done breaking in the motor I will be out pushing it and dialing the suspesion in. I think it will perform alot better soon as thats all done. I plan to run it in stock form for my next race, then we are off for the killer summer months, I will set it up with the SX a-ams and wider rear axle, the head will go off to Baldwin racing for their magic and I will get the suspesion set up for me.

Here is a few pics, the nerfs, bumpers etc.. were not in but I expect them in a week or so.

Nice it looks real good, i bet once you have that thing set up it will not even compare to your 440 or your friends yfz. Keep us updated i want to hear about when you finally get to ride it hard.

Well I ran the first race on the KTM this weekend. This gave me my first real chance to compare it to the 440ex. I spent all last week breaking in the motor and trying to figure out a good setting for the stock suspension. I have to say I was pretty surprised that I didn't have to much trouble adapting to the the new ride from the 400ex. IMO they seem to feel close to the same as far as ergo's. I have tried YFZ's and 450R's and they just didn't feel right.
Race day was hot, about 96 degrees and the water truck got a little carried away in some spots so there was plenty of mud. Our motos are 45-50 minutes, In the previous races with the heat out here the 440ex would show some signs of heat fade towards the end (as expected form an air cooled motor) especially once it was coated in a 1/2 inch of mud.
This round the KTM had non-stop power for the whole race, at the end I looked down at my radiator to see it was completly covered in mud and still no motor fade. The stock suspension took a beating in 2-3 foot deep whoops and performed well, I was really surprised, I think once its spung and valved for me I will like the Ohlins as much as my old Axis.
All in all I think the trasition to the KTM has been smooth, I will miss the old 400 but I guess all good thing must come to an end sometime. I still think its by far one of the best quads ever produced and can remain competitive at many levels of racing.

Glad to hear the KTM is working out for you. A friend of mine is getting ready to ditch his 09 crf250r for a KTM. His bike was a lemon and we've always heard good things about KTMs. Wish I could find a deal like that ($6800) on a KTM quad.

They are trying to get all the 08's out the door. Some guy in Oregon said he paid 6400 out the door :eek2:
Keep looking, there will be some smoking deals for awhile.
