Four wheel drive works now and then

I have a 1999 sportsman 500 and a year or two ago it stopped working. Then all of a sudden it works when it feels like it. Me and my dad had rebuilt the hubs and made sure the wireing was right but still no luck. If any one has any clues iam open to suggestions.

my budy has a 2002 sportsman 500 and he has the same problem it works only when it wants to its been that way ever since he bought it it has to be some type of faulty ground wire or something like that. but im not sure good luck.

Thanks that could be the problem i never fully checked the wireing but it mainly happened when the spedo went does ur buddys spedo work.

no his spedo went when he first got it now when its running it jumps around between 5 and 20 mph but thats when its just idleing and when you ride it, it would show 60 mph but it finally just stoped working all together.

I am thinking that had something to do with it at first my dad put a jumper in and it worked for a bit now it dosent if your buddy ever figures it out let me know thanks
