picked up a 300ex for 600 dollars. it only needs a plug and maybe some new rubber. but it is kinda nice. lol it has a couple stitches on the plastics. but it is DEFFINATLY worth 600 dollars.

i do not know how i will set this one up. i guess just like my 400, for trails.

what do you guys think?

what should i set it up like?
did i get a good deal?

not looking for fast, more for a reliable quad, but i am thinking i should extend the rear hubs and space it out a little, but keep the motor mostly stock. i will not ride this one much if at all, i have my 400 lol. but this one is for everyone else to have fun on, i think i should make it stable and wide, but with spacers, i do not see it being jumped at all. plus i need my money for the 400 lol.

i think i will put this on,

new filter
spacers
tires
maybe a slip on if i can get one cheap.

but if i wanted fast out of a 300ex i would go hybrid.

but thanks for the input...does that sound like a good trail setup to you?

you could do the 400ex a arm conversion. get rear extended hubs to match the a arm conversion.

well i could do that 1 of 2 ways.

1. buy new arms for the 400 [too much money]
2. buy another set of 400 arms.

how much are another set of 400ex a arms?

find someone that is upgrading to aftermarket a arms and buy off them. the sellers on here are very reasonable and negotiable.

I BELIEVE YOU CAN. JUST DO A SEARCH FOR THE CONVERSION AND FIND OUT WHAT EXACTLY IS INVOLVED.

make the 300ex decent, sell it for a profit, then put the money in your 400.

...and don't forget the tie rods (you'll need those) and front shock relocator bracket so you can run 400ex/450r shocks. I think Diamond J makes a bracket with a couple different mount holes for different shock options.

I also read that a rear shock from a 2001 Raptor will bolt right into the rear and make a difference (must be 2001 for remote reservoir). I don't know if it is much of an improvement, but it may be worth checking into.

I had a 91 250x and a 93 300ex. They were sweet! Especially in the trails. Silky smooth clutch/tranny.... really fun quad.

I did the 400ex a-arm/shock swap on the 250x. Never widened the rear out. It actually handled great with that set up. Front wasn't all that much wider than the rear. I can post a pic later if you want.

i have a set of 400 arms, tie rods and brake lines, one upper arm is stlightly bent, and the grease boot has a cut in it, also have the 400 stock shocks.. i know the stock 400 shocks suck but it is a small upgrade in travel. let me know if your interested, if you want to buy everything i cut you a better deal then the items alone.

Man, that 250X looks like it rolled off the showroom floor that way. Looks like a really clean conversion.

I miss that quad.... sniff sniff....

Sold it for 2200 a couple years ago. It was in very good condition. Had been in the family since new. (Father purchased it)

It's probably better that you sold it. That's more than you can get for the average 400ex right now.
