I'm in the market to upgrade the 250r to a 4st. I have been a honda guy my whole life, but I see these yammys up front more and more. Is there an advantage for either of these bikes. I'm looking at bikes between 04-07 for either bike. Is their any reason I should be looking at one or the other. The honda scares me if it hasn't had the crank replaced from stock. I really don't feel like purchasing a bike, just to drop another 1600 on a rebuild after the first few races.

dont be scared of the honda. I have an 05 that has about 25 races on it....100% stock motor still. As for which quad to get, its what ever you feel comfortable sitting on/riding. I personally like the trx and I hate the yamaha. I wanna ride the new yfz450r though. Just so i can get an opinion of it.

they are both good quads. 450r's are more reliable (imo) but the yamaha's are really great quads to they suspension is better than the 450r's (imo)

id say honda. The crank problem is WAY WAY WAY less of a deal than everyone makes it seem

If I were to purchase another quad for xc it would be a yamaha.

how is it less of a deal? Is there an easier fix for it than to replace the whole thing?

the 04-05 honda. Never had any problems or now of anybody who has had any problems with those bikes. there was not a wide spread problem with the cranks. the 04-05 yamahas had a lack of oiling on the top end resulting in alot of engine failures. you can go to curtis sparks racing.com or call them and see for yourself. they had battery charging problems also.

I would love to race the yamaha I just dont feel comfortable on one.

I think thats what it boils down to more than anything, both are good bikes!
