hey yall i just wanted to say whatsup. i just got my 08 525s about 2 weeks ago, and love it. ive already beat a z400 that was jetted and piped! i got one question though, its time for an oil change, and i have been reading on here that most people use rotella 5w40, and i have seen that people are using 15w40, are the people who use 15w40 really using 5w40 and accidentally putting 15w40 or what? also my wife went to walmart to pick up some oil for me and they looked up my bike in some books and gave her some 10w30, can that be used with the ktm motor? thanks for the imput!

Most are using the 15w40 non-synthetic (white jug). The 5w40 is synthetic (blue jug).

I would not use that 10w30 as it is most likely car oil and almost all 30 weight oils are energy conserving (your clutch will hate you!). Almost all 4-stroke ATV recommended oil is a minimum 10w40. Polaris' recomendation is a 20w50.

Yep, sorry just not used to typing 2w50. Polaris is the only one I know of that has a 2w50. It is the recommend oil in the wifes Sportsman as well.

I break all my engines in like I am going to use them. With a quad, that means, warm up the engine a couple of minutes,,,,,,,,,and then WOT baby, run the piss out of it. It is the only way to seat the rings to your own riding style. I have never had a problem with this technique, and highly recommend it.:macho

well... i waited till i got about 3 hrs on it, then one of my buddies told me that the only way to get the pistons to seat right is to ride it like you would normally ride... because you only have a limited time get them to do that. on that advice im just gonna ride it like i stole it! so far so good!

Has anyone ran 20w50 (Lucas - motorcycle blend) with any problems?
