Can I see some picks of the home-made ways to keep water out of these minis carbs. Just DNF'd today because we sucked some water, hopefully not too much damage!!!

Don't run raceway park in a rain storm. what a disaster today was. Our 70 drr made it 3/4 of a lap. fouled out. we did finish in the 90 class but its a 4 stroke. i figured it out to 50$ a lap. GREAT.

I hear ya, came out of the hole second and never made a full lap in a 2 lap race, won't happen again!!!!

What are you doing to the DRR to dry it out and get it running right again?

What we always used was 4" dryer vent hose, slide one end over the filter, put a hole in the top and bottome and zip tie it to the carb, then take the dryer vent up under the front nose of the plastic, it does lean it out a little sometimes but never had it lean it out enough where it caused any problems. It's worked for quite a few of us, and got us through quite a few sloppy days. Hope that helps you out.

Thats what we had on today but this track was a sloppy mess that was causing DNFs all over the place, maybe should have ran the vent towards the ground as some others did.

Yea that may have helped, I have always ran it to the front, but I have seen some run it towards the rear, I never did just because I figured that the heat off of the pipe wouldn't allow it to work properly. But that was just a somewhat educated guess. LOL

We did the same. Its ok for an occasional puddle, not for today. Also the drr and apex have crappy electrics (stater, plug cap, etc.) I heard that ztr is comming out with a new side cover to water proof the stater. I wrapped everything i could. Ask those gncc guys, they run in slop all day long.

Can i get some feedback on everything I should check/dry out after running in a puddle filled race and motor stalled, probably sucked some water, i want to be sure I dry this thing out before running again, any help will be appreciated. Already pulled carb and cleaned, cleaned intake, cleaned/dried out cap, pulled exhaust off and dried it out, change plug, and cleaned air filter, seems to idle fine but I haven't given it any throttle yet, just let it idle for a couple minutes and it sounded ok. After the race i started it once and it bogged right out, that was before doing what i stated above, any tips?

Come on Kevin you know the best thing to do is keep it in the trailer...............   or not even go......... it's really not worth it. They never run the same.

I will agree with you on that one Mike, I put Branon's back in the trailer several times.

I agree we probably should have skipped the moto but hind-sight's 20/20, do either of you have any suggestions that might help a new guy make sure he checks everything before running it hard again? We have a race this weekend and I want to be ready....Thanks for any help!

I got a DRR air filter relocation tube from Gary @ G-Force Powersports. With a little modification to work on our Scrambler 90, the air filter is now safely tucked away up behind the fake headlight. He ran in A LOT of mud and water a couple weekends ago and never had a problem.

I was even thinking about making a ram-air setup to replace the fake headlight....

This was way beyond a sloppy track some of the turns looked like lakes. I ran the dryer vent on both my 50s but we were lucky
to be the 1st and 4th races. After that it got real bad.
mxdad you said with the dry duct it will lean out the motor but
if you are restricting the airfow a little bit with the dryer duct
shouldnt it run a little on the rich side?

Clean carb......completey, take it all the way apart. Check comp. if it was me I'd throw a piston in it.

Like he said, make sure you clean the carb completley, I would pull the cylinder and clean the crank area really good and probably throw a new piston and ring in it, and also take the clutches completly apart and clean them up real good with some break clean, change the tranny oil, almost a garauntee it will be milky, and probably wouldn't hurt to pull the flywheel off ( if your running the flyweel and not a PVL) and clean the flywheel and stator up. Sounds like a lot but thats what I would do just to be sure everything is good and clean, that way it's less likely to let you down at the next race.

All you need is a couple of zip ties, utility knife & plastic milk jug, & no-toil.
Ran in over 18"of standing water in Washington, which in other parts of the country you would call that a river but here is just another puddle.
Made it through many 30 minute races with no water in carb.

Never liked the dryer tube for if water did get in it, would run down the tube right into the carb.

Well....I got it all together and ran it for about 15 minutes pretty hard, no bogging but seemed a little hot @ the end of the run, power was still there.....sound ok?

Have any of you guys tried that Stage 6 or Keisler wedge thing. It turns the carb back to behind the engine. I just wonder if it robs power?
Here is a link to it:

I'd love to try the keisler wedge spacer or the Stage 6 rearward facing intake... But will it fit with the top motor mount bolt in the way on the DRR's and our predator 90?

That keisler spacer just looks like it tilts the carb. Some new Apex 90's are coming with and XC kit on them that relocates the carb and air box under the seat the way it should be. If you can get one that is definitely the way to go. Until then I use 3 feet of the dryer vent and run it up around the fender and the stuff the opening down the headlight hole so it is facing down. With a well oiled UNI filter and the dryer vent, my son can run thru water nerf bar deep at speed!!

James, nice looking cover, but is there a seal on it or is it just a piece of metal shaped to cover the opening?? and how much?? I hate having to clean the stator off.

You will need to replace the long bolt with two short ones which will leave the opening needed for the carb. As far as the tilt, I've been told that is better because it is more of a straight shot into the engine. I will have one of these sometime. I can't believe it robbs power because one of the fastest quads at the Nationals has a long tube for an intake that relocates the carb behind the engine. I say we make the battery box an airbox! It could be done.

Yes, there is a proprietary foam gasket that will seal off about 99%.
