View Full Version : HRC kit has ruined my '05

I had an HRC kit installed by a reputable dealer on my '05 that has about 60hrs on it. I picked it up around quitting time yesterday and got it home and I'm literally sick.

The quad will not idle at all and is a chore to keep running. Once you do get going it falls on it's face until you get to around 40mph (guestimate). The minute you let off the throttle it dies. Once it's warm it's hard to start and hard to keep running long enough to get going.

So basically I paid $450+ to go from a nice running easy starting stock quad to one that won't idle for crap and runs like a Briggs lawn mower on crack.

Understand that I'm an old 2-stroke guy and am clueless about high performance 4-strokes. All I wanted was a little more power without killing my reliability. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The clip on the pilot needle probably needs to be adjusted, sounds like it's being starved for fuel.

The HRC kit for these things is like magic! It is awesome! They messed up something. Take it back and tell them to fix it right!

I went home for lunch and fiddled with the idle screw but could never get it to idle. It either ran away with itself or idled fine for a few seconds before dieing.

I'm just aggravated because this dealership is over an hour away and the reason I took the quad to them is because of good reviews from guys I ride with. There is no way they could have ridden the quad and not noticed how it ran. My guess is they installed the kit and threw it on my truck.

Oh well....I called them and they said bring it back and they would make it right. So that's another 2 1/2 hrs on the road and time spent that I don't have.

sounds like timing to me but idk, maybe valve adjustments. youd think youd get it back from a dealer and it would be perfect some people get sloppy and lazy good luck with it

have them check the electrical stuff too. My has had similar problems before and it was electrical

hrc kit didnt mess up your quad, some half arse mechanic did

im guessing they didnt get the timing right when they installed the cam

I would be scared to take it back to them
(take it to another shop)

mistakes happen but like you said, there is no way they tested it

Sounds to me like its off by a tooth on the timing.

Sound like the timing is off or the carb is way out of wack. Before you waste your time make sure the carb is seated in the boot correctly and all clamps are tight. Might save your self a trip.

its easy to get it a tooth off, the big deal is the shop no doing it right and not testing it

whats your airbox lid look like...cause if its stock without the big hole in it, that could be your problem, heck i'd even try pullin it right off

I had a HRC kit installed on my 06, and it had similar issues, the problem was the timing was off by one tooth. After that, it runs like a champ. Timing will throw alot off.

The dealer called and said they had missed the timing by one tooth.

I ran the quad like this for about 15min. Could I have done damage that I should be concerned about? They said they had it fixed and it was running and idling fine.

I would think not with just one tooth being off, but I would ask them just in case.

As long as it was only one tooth off it is nothing to worry about having stock components had you had a high compression piston I would have been worried. I would hope they gave you something for the 2 and a half hour trip.

yeah my buddy did a bunch of things to his ltr (cams piston, etc etc) and when he put it back together he was off a tooth. he rode the piss outta it and was all depressed cause it didnt run like he thought it would. a whole weekend of riding. then he tore it down and realized what he did... but it didnt hurt anything in his. and he raced it the rest of the season and it was fine. so i wouldnt worry about it..

Got the quad back Saturday.:D :D

I guess was being a little dramatic. It was not that big of a deal really. I guess just the inconvenience of having to run it to and from the dealer had me agitated.

Anyways, I wish I had done the HRC kit sooner. Goodness gracious what a difference.:D
