How do you know if the guides are good? I am replacing the tensioner, and chain and was told i should look into guides. I am having this clanking noise from the top end when under a load in second gear and up to fifth. The noise is definately a chain slap. Even though the chain and tensioner are new i think they might be bad because i installed the tensioner with all the tension on it and may have stretched the chain and damaged the tensioner. Any thoughts on the checking the guides?

Are they chewed up in any places? That's a first thing to look into..and if you have the right side case cover off check to see if there is any chunks of rubber at the bottom. Other than that, if they seem okay, then they probably are.

yea the one towards the front of the motor was fine but the rear had chunks out of it. i am going to order both but only put the rear one in because i don't want to have to put another head gasket on. thanks though.
