Just wondering, has anyone done the carb/bore/piston/cam thing, but kept a stock exaust? I was thinking, no way a full system can compare to the same amount of money in the stealth mods, but everyone pipes it. I just think its cool to sneak up on people....make them think after you wipe the grin off their face.:devil

I've tried the scenario you're speaking about. However, anyone with half-a-brain knew I was lieing and said so.

I tried keeping the stock exhaust on my 400 after doing a 416 10.8 to 1 and a stage 2 Hotcam... But I had a slight "bog" that I could not get rid of. The bog would get worse when I attempted going up hills. I did notice a slight improvement with the airbox lid removed, but that was not an option for me. Needless to say, once I put a slip-on... Problem solved, no more bog, but a lot more noise!

Note: I did all of this with 22" rear tires and a 14 tooth front sprocket... I did not attempt going to 20" rear tires to see if the "bog" would still be there... But I am sure it would have improved the performance versus the 22".

I know I am struggling with the same issue , really want to run with stock pipe on the 440ex listed in my sig. but losing power wish some one could devolp a pipe that was middle of the road, balance between resonable noise and performance.sorry sp?

there was talk about that a while ago with gutting the muffler

i was thinking it would probably be quieter if you only do the first step of gutting it or the second step but not both

yea but with my idea they still see the stock silencer, and it will be quieter than theres if they have a pipe:devil

I gutted a stock muffler, and gave it to a friend. I never tried it. He said he thought it lost power, but his bike was a piece of crap, and never could come close to touching mine when they where both stock. I believe he sold his 400 with the gutted one on it.
