Wet out this weekend on my new quad....Got beat to death! Tell me about preload?

After hitting some trails and getting bounced around like an idiot I noticed that the front shocks were one click away from the "hardest" setting. I'm not a suspension guy so I'm not sure if thats the right terminology!?!

That is the preload, right? Is there a scale to use for setting it or can I just click all the way down to the softest setting and then adjust up from there depending on how it rides/feels?

KFX 400.... I finally found a link to setting the suspension. Also found how to set it back to stock as far as the rebound and dampening.
