Honda Trx 400EX fuel question

ok. so i have an 03 trx and we just rebuilt it. The piston that was put in it has an 11:1 Compression. The other day i took it out and when i was running low rmps it would sputter and make a pop noise from the block. Iwas told i need to run racing fuel with the high compression or i will break a piston agian.
Is this true?
What fuel?

11 to 1 you will be good with pump gas any higher you would need race fuel.

take a look at your plug and make sure it's carmel colored....you may need to rejet

ok today we adjusted the jets a little and ran vpower 91 octane from the pump. there is no poping sound now. It only makes it when it almost stalls out.

yeah and by pump gas they mean 91-93 octane pump gas not 87
