The NEATV Series took a big step as the season kicked off its opener at Walden MX. Factory involvement in our sport is suffering due to the poor economy, however they are doing all they can to help series and riders throught the country keep racing alive and well!

You may have noticed the ATVriders.com RV at this round, and that is because we have grown enough to be able to cover every round this season thanks to our members continued support and from sponsors helping cover a portion of our expenses. The value we hope to bring the series, its riders and the sponsors of this series should help grow things for everyone involved!

Results (http://www.atvriders.com/atvresults/neatv-mx-2009-01-atv-race-results.html) These results are taken directly from scoring immediatley following the race and provided by the NEATV. If corrections are made, it will be posted when the NEATV releases the results.

For those of you that are familiar with how we do coverage, you should be pretty happy that we are giving you guys the same treatment we do the National series and with good reason as the NEATV Series isn't far behind the National MX Series in scope and from what I understand is the largest regional series in the country!

Thats a pretty big feat folks, and it hasn't gone unnoticed. Attendence at the opening round was spectacular with well over 300 entries.

And for those of you joining our coverage for the first time, I will give you a quick run down on how coverage works.

At each round, we will have a photographer there to capture a myriad of images of the event. These images are available for sale ofcourse, but mainly they are to showcase the riders, the event and the fans. After each event, there will be featured on our homepage results, a report about the race and if things go well enough, a coverage thread such as this one. The coverage thread remains locked just so we can complete the forums coverage and the thread can flow, then its opened up for everyone to add their commentary etc.

I also would love to have a few race reports emailed to me (or pm'd) from the Amatuer and Youth racers so that I can include, in your own words, into the coverage. My email is bkperformance@peoplepc.com

With factory involvement, everyone loves to see the races through images and video which we hope to supply to your satisfaction!

And remember, we usually catch most of what you dont see, so even though it doesn't happen on the track, be prepared for those candid shots to pop up:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 07:31 PM
As far as who we are.....well you will usually see me there at most of the rounds this season. I am the strapping young lad who could put Brad Pitt on welfare if I wanted:o Fortunatley for him I enjoy being muddy and dusty taking pictures of you guys instead of chasing hollywood harlets around:D

The main man in charge of this site is Harlen Foley. I tell him all the time that he has a face for radio and belongs BEHIND the camera:chinese:

All kidding aside, if you need a few extra bucks, Foley is always throwing away stuff thats worth money. Just keep an eye on him if he makes it back to a round or two because I made $30 for selling this kid one of his cameras:devil:

Pappy
04-27-2009, 07:38 PM
Now if by now you haven't picked up on the fact that we have a sense of humor, then I can't help you:D

So if you see us looking like we need a water, we probably do. If we look hungry, we are, and if your a hot single women, stay away from both of us. Our wives are alot meaner then we are:devil:

Ok, now that you get a sense of what the heck we do and how much fun we have doing it, back to the coverage. For Yankee's, you guys sure are a fun loving bunch. Every time my lens would scan the crowd (searching for hot women ofcourse!) I could easily pick out smiles and people having fun.....and thats what alot of this is about. Family and friends expierencing the victory and defeat that comes with competition. I am very glad to see this in our sport so again, be forewarned, I may catch you by surprise from 3/4 away across the track!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 07:48 PM
Did I say Yankee's? Well folks, I am from West by God Virginia so running and gunning up north should be a big change of venue. So whats a West Virginny boy to do on race day...go shoot some Yankees and thats exactly what I did. (Foley is south of the Mason Dixon line as well, but we call him one of our own regardless of how he acts!:D )

Saturday is practice day and there was alot of it! Now when I first set boots on that track and scanned it for some good locations to shoot, I was a bit let down. At first glance it looked one lined, sandy and dusty. However, the track crews worked some magic saturday evening and had a decent track set up for you guys come sunday morning!

Maybe that rough and whooped track was just to get you guys primed as this was your first race of the season!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 07:57 PM
And guys, I will let you know in advance, if you wreck, we usually catch it:p

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:03 PM
Some big names would be on hand for this race, including Joe Haavisto. Joe had his Kawi flying during practice and everyone knew he would be the man to beat.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:06 PM
Now I know not everyone was ready for the high temperatures. Man its plum to early for 90 degrees:p You guys had my respect for ripping around in that stuff as the humidity rose during the afternoon!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:10 PM
Jasmin Plante would add to the names in the Pro class as he was caught here working his YFZ through the rythm section.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:14 PM
Alot of riders came up to me and I know to Harlen and expressed how much they appreciated us being there. And I know I speak for both of us when I say the pleasure is all ours. If we didnt enjoy what we do, we wouldnt do it but knowing you guys are into it as well, thats just icing on the cake for us;)

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:20 PM
Nate Morello gets ready to lead out a class during practice.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:22 PM
BCS-Can Am rider Matthew Pomeroy works on dialing in his Can Am DS450.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:26 PM
Practice for me is for dialing is as well. Finding the spots to make things happen, making sure my cameras are ready and I also keep an eye on riders and note who does what and where.

Dylan Murcott shadows a fellow rider as the pair exits a corner

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:27 PM
Yeah thats a big lens isn't it:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:32 PM
Chad Perry made the trip from his home state of Maine to participate. I wish he would have brought me a few big ol' lobsters down:( :D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:34 PM
I was surprised at how sandy the soil was. I knew form looking at the schedule that Southwick would be sandy, but didnt expect it here. By saturday afternoon, the track was getting pretty rough in sections.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:36 PM
Myles Santaniello was looking very fast during practice.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:42 PM
Rich Stambach works his LTR around a high speed corner. I hadn't seen Rich since Unadilla last season, good to see him out there !

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:44 PM
The speeds started to increase as the riders learned the track and started cranking it up!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:49 PM
My old friend Lou (Quad041) has been a member here since forever. He is a blast to watch ride and even though he says he is getting to old to run hard, he can still throw it out there when he feels like it! Lou was just up for practice and some seat time after a long winter.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:51 PM
There wasn't any big air at this track, but there was some airtime to be had if you could handle it:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:53 PM
Christopher Holden hammers a turn as he sends a shower of roost my way. Yep...sand in my eyes but not from this. That wind that picked up really carried it around!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:56 PM
Saturday practice would come to an end, but not the fun!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 08:58 PM
Now how can I get me a cool dog and a ride to sport around the track on:p Some folks have it made:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:03 PM
Saturday morning would greet everyone with plenty of blue sky and sunshine as the days racing was about to get underway. BCS is a huge force in this series and their riders aim to do well for their sponsors!

I think this guy stole that shirt....well that is what I heard:o :D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:05 PM
Staging lanes were assembled as each class would get two laps to check out the track

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:15 PM
Three prior champions would be competing at this round, and this would also mark the first time any Champion had returned to defend his title.

Check out all the details in this article
Three Champs (http://www.atvriders.com/atvnews/neatv-mx-2009-pro-atv-joe-haavisto-nate-morello-matt-pomeroy.html)

Well, those three champions would have a full gate of racers that really dont want to see any of them repeat and when the gate dropped, it would be Michael Pilotte #8 grabbing the holeshot on his Honda!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:17 PM
18 riders were entered in the Pro class and everyone of them wanted to be the first to grab a win. That win wouldnt come easy as the track erupted with roost and the sound of machines clawing their way out of turn 1

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:24 PM
Pilotte would exit turn two and face a challenge from Richard Pelchat as the pair raced out of the corner

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:26 PM
Pomeroy would get sent sideways and shoved into the dirt but would soon be back in the mix

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:28 PM
When the dust started to settle, it was appearent that not everyone made it through turn 1 clean as Jason Connell was tangled with another rider

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:30 PM
Pilotte would have a solid hold on the lead as he works down a straight headed back to the finish line to complete lap 1

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:31 PM
Pelchat would hold 2nd as Haavisto kept him in check

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:33 PM
Jasmin Plante would skate by Vincent Mofford as he started moving through the field of riders

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:35 PM
Pilotte scored the first lap with a sizeable lead, and the battle for second would have to wait. Pelchat and Haavisto set their sights on the leader and would not battle hard until they caught him.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:38 PM
The racing behind the leaders was hectic as everyone wanted upfront! Myles Santaniello and Christopher Holden work their way over a jump as they head back into the tight sections of the track

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:40 PM
Connell was trying to make up ground from the first turn fiasco

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:42 PM
Pilotte was riding very smooth and holding a good pace as he continued to lead

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:45 PM
Pelchat was turning it up a notch as he tried to reel in Pilotte

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:47 PM
Santaniello would take a digger as he lost it going into a turn. Dirty, I'm sure ticked off, but unhurt and soon back on the track!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:50 PM
Santaniello would set sail over the berm as his quad buried itself

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:54 PM
Tony Lucaselli and Tommy Lombaido battle early in the race, however Lombaido would run into problems and DNF

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:56 PM
While the leaders were checking out, the rest of the class was deep in it as they traded positions and did everything they could to gain an advantage over each other

Pappy
04-27-2009, 09:59 PM
Dave Larerhelle lays on the throttle as he hammers out of a corner.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:01 PM
Pilotte had been caught! Pelchat was now ready to start pressuring the leader as the race was now half over. It looked to me like Pilotte had started to fade just a touch and thats all it took for the hard charging Pelchat and Haavisto to finally reel him in!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:04 PM
Pilotte now had his hands full as the track played into Pelchats advantage. If he could pressure Pilotte now, he could tire him slightly and make a move when they reached open ground, or force a mistake and make a pass if the chance presented itself.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:07 PM
Pilotte held off Pelchat one more lap as Haavisto had a perfect view of the action as he sized up each rider from the 3rd spot

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:09 PM
It would be Haavisto to strike first! Joe had enough and with only a few laps remaining he had to go! Haavisto would pick off Pelchat and now it was his turn to put the pressure on Pilotte!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:12 PM
Haavisto would make attempts almost at every turn!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:14 PM
Joe would get a good run out of the corner as Pilotte powered his Honda forward as he knew the pass was coming!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:16 PM
It would be a drag race and then a who will lift first as they entered a corner!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:18 PM
Haavisto would win this battle as the trio of racers now tucked in to attack the back section

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:23 PM
Haavisto's lead would be short lived as Pelchat would make the pass for the lead and take the win!

From my position, I was expecting Haavisto to pull this one out but when Pelchat popped into my lens.....strike a win in the Can Am column on this moto!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:37 PM
The Amatuer action was excellent, and all day long you could walk up to the fence and catch some serious battles taking place.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:40 PM
The track that was presented to the racers was up to the task as moto after moto hammered the New York soil!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:46 PM
Rob Corliss wouldnt have a race that he would be bragging about, but stated he was working more on getting his Can Am dialed in this round. Rob...as long as you walk away from the track its a good day:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:49 PM
Justin Cyr would have a full day of racing as he rode to a 1-1 in 4 Stroke 91-450 Novice C and a 2-1 in Open Novice C !

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:52 PM
Option lines were available in a few spots and it helped those that could keep it pinned and grab another spot!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:55 PM
No matter what class was on the track, you could find a good race and that makes my job very easy!!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 10:57 PM
One rider was injured, I believe his wrist or shoulder, when he took a bad bounce landing one of the bigger jumps. I have the whole sequence, unfortunatley I didnt have the right camera in my hand:p

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:01 PM
His wreck set up another wreck but I dont believe any riders were injured, or I wasn't informed of such.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:03 PM
Seeing the injured rider get up and walk to assistance is always a good sign, and we all hope he recovers and heals quickly and with as little pain as possible!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:07 PM
Pro Am would be the next class that had everyone clammering to the fence to watch.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:12 PM
With 27 entries in the class, a heat race had to be run, leaving only those ready to get the job done on the line.

When moto 1 fired off, everyone knew it would be a great race!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:14 PM
Richard Pelchat was flying in his heat race, however he was doing so by the seat of his pants as his seat was MIA!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:18 PM
Can-Am’s Matt Pomeroy had a great heat race and would finish 2nd!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:22 PM
Michael Pilotte came out swinging in his heat race and would finish second

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:23 PM
Pilotte is a fun racer to watch, and I have a feeling if he can get his stamina up just a tad....he will be giving Haavisto all he can handle!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:25 PM
Nate Morello would have another great race but suffer a DNF due to a collision with Richard Pelchat.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:27 PM
Standing tall at the end of the day in Pro Am was Joe Haavisto who won his heat race and the main giving the Kawasaki rider the overall.

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:30 PM
Foley couldnt read one of Haavisto's stickers...so he got in a little close:eek:

Last weekend Jason Dunkleberger grazed Foley at the start in Birch Creek, now Haavisto nearly clips his whiskers....

Exactly how much DO I have to pay you guys to run him over or do I just get a quad and do it myself:devil:

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:33 PM
Moto 2 action lived up to moto1 and this picture tells a whole lot! That hazy , hot and humid sun was beating on everyone!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:35 PM
I heard that guy yelling all the way across the track:devil:

Support rocks:D

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:36 PM
A rider clears the jump as the fans in the bleachers take notice of a close call!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:38 PM
Tense.....yeah you could say that:p

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:43 PM
Pro Moto 2 was on deck and it would another exciting race to watch!

Shade was in short supply and for those that had an umbrella on the line, well...fooey on you:p

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:46 PM
Plenty of fluids was key to staving off that oppressive confounded heat:p

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:49 PM
Foley was fiddling with his camcorder when he heard them fire off...tsk tsk tsk:p

Morello would get the jump in moto 2!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:52 PM
Morello would have a much better second moto and held the lead when he came flying past my position!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:55 PM
The fight continued as they went past Foley after scoring lap 1! Haavisto was hungry and KTM was on the menu:eek:

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:56 PM
If Haavisto wanted the lead, he was going to have to take it! Morello was putting in a great ride and both riders were giving us all one heck of a show!

Pappy
04-27-2009, 11:58 PM
Pelchat closed in and now we had 3 capable riders all wanting to be out front!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:00 AM
At times, it would get flat out chaotic as the battles unfolded in front of us. It was a great race no matter what position you happened to have battling before you!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:02 AM
Santaniello would get flat snuffed in a corner by Pelchat causing him to hit the dirt yet again! He was back out and on the move in no time, but his day was shot.

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:04 AM
Pelchat would find himself sitting the next lap as mechanical issues sidelined him

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:06 AM
Joe Haavisto cranked on his Kawi and sent Morello back a spot.

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:08 AM
With open track ahead of him, Haavisto decided to put the nail in the coffin and opened up a solid lead.

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:10 AM
Morello was holding second but couldnt take a break as Pilotte was now in 3rd and on the prowl!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:11 AM
Pilotte looks back as the hunter has become the hunted! Enter Jasmin Plante and the race was on!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:13 AM
Give the win to Joe Haavisto as he sets sail over the finish line jump and takes the chekered flag! Joes 2-1 would secure his first overall in his quest to defend his title!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:15 AM
Morello put in a heck of a race and earned his spot as well. With a 5-2 day, he would wrap up the 3rd overall position!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:16 AM
Michael Pilotte would go 3-3 on the day giving this talented young rider a solid 2nd!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:18 AM
Tired, hot and ready to towel off and do it again if they could!

Great racing guys, it was a pleasure to have it unfold in front of me!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 12:22 AM
That about wraps it up folks. I have some pictures to add for the kids that also put on a great race for us and will add them shortly!

I appreciated all the support we recieved from the Pro class to the youngest of racers and everyone in between. We look forward to covering thsi series and getting to know many more of you all as the season progresses!!!

Pappy
04-28-2009, 06:51 AM
