04 450 r smokeing

ok when i tip the quad on its end to wash or tighten the skid plate the quad smokes when i start it the longer it is up the more it smokes then it goes away and doesint do it till i tip it again

what do you guys think it is ? anything would be good

Its probably oil going through your crank case breather tube into your air intake.

i took that tube out of my air box and it does not drip out of the breather...

did you tip it up first?

yes say i tip it to wash it and then i put it down and start it it will smoke for a few min

When you stand it up like that all the fluid moves to the back you should let it sit for at least 5-10min before you start it.

ive let it sit over night and it still does it its so confusing its never done that on any of my other quads

lol that helps, obviously he has some kind of problem.
You should be able to stand the bike up for as long as you want and not have that happen.

Oil is getting into ur chamber or intake track somehow.
Did you overfill either oil?

look...what color is the smoke?
tip the bike up and then set it back down after a few minutes and then check the crank case breather tube right away. If thats not it than it could be oil getting past your rings because your turning the motor horizontal and they aren't designed to sit that way. another thing it may be is gas leaking out of your carb and when you start it it runs really rich for a minute or two. run the bike with the gas shut off until it quits and then tip it up for a few minutes and set it back down. turn the gas back on and see if it smokes then. but like I said before its best not to tip it up. put some ramps on the tailgate of your truck and drive it up half way then lay under the ramps. But I'll need to know what color the smoke is so I know what kind of fluid is getting in.

its a whitish smoke and smells like oil and i tip it cause i like to keep the quad clean and like he said i should be able to keep it like that i have with the past 4 quads i have had and no oil goes to the breather hose

white smoke usually means its antifreeze maybe you have a head gasket problem.

blueish black is oil

greyish black is gas

and white is antifreeze

check your head gasket for leaks
