I take this stuff pretty serious. In 2005, they all but said i had teh Bird Flu....but my Disease Specialist would not come out and say it but wouldnt tell me no when I pressed the question. She stated that this country will one day see a pandemic that kills hundreds of thousands and she blamed it on illigal immigrants who come in here without inoculations etc. and on visa holders that are not properly screened.

My family was told to start making arrangements for me...thats about as close as Id like to come to dying......so they better do something about all this crap:ermm:

But then again, they sometimes seem to thrive on that at times too .:ermm:

It is human nature to worry about stuff.

People get off on making others worry. Also, there are political benefits to keeping the populace in a state of unease.

Just wash your hands, and stop picking your nose. I know it is hard to resist the pick, but anyone gets sick, it is because they are a nose picker. :D If you visit an arid country that does not have Kleenex, be especially careful, because you know they are all picking.

hmm... the first link hosed up, but here's the story on CNN: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/US/04/22/missing.virus.sample/index.html
3 vials of a virus were stolen..
"The vials contained samples of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, a virus that sickens horses and can be spread to humans by mosquitoes. In 97 percent of cases, humans with the virus suffer flu-like symptoms, but it can be deadly in about 1 out of 100 cases, "

In "The Stand", this is sorta how the killer virus gets out- it was the Army's fault.

No really, I had the flu back in December. I was one sick mofo. I have never been that sick in my life. I have read detailed descriptions of the symptoms that swine flu causes, and they seem mild to what I had to deal with.

The scary part about NEW flu viruses is that in healthy adults (NOT the very young or very old) our own immune systems kill us. The body over-reacts and causes EXTREME high fever, EXCESS fluid in the lungs (pneumonia) ect. The Spanish influenza outbreak was notorious for killing otherwise healthy middle-aged adults. Many people think that was REALLY what caused the end of World War I. The flu was decimating armies at a devestating rate (faster than what the enemy was).

HOWEVER, I work in the medical field and can tell you this much....never in the history of time have we had the AMAZING medical technology that we have today (Take TAMIFLU for example-it takes away the flu's ability to re-produce in the body) and they have already found the "flu base" of the swine flu (which is the main step in formulating a vaccine). It will only be a couple of months before the vaccine will be ready for mass production.

How's that old saying go- "The time of your death is recorded in the library of the almighty- you can run and hide under a rock if you want to, but you won't live one second longer"

GLORY TO THE BRAVE!!!!!

well i have a serious thing and a funny thing to say
was listening to the radio this morning

as of 1:00 PM april 28 2009 there have been 64 confirmed cases in the U.S.

and there are some angry mexicans out there
most jewish and muslim communities think that pigs are nasty and unhealthy and refuse to call it swine flu

they are calling it the Mexican Flu:D

pissed off mexicans here we go............................:p

the projections for potential spreading is unreal and to think they don't even know how its spread yet.....wow

trick450r
04-29-2009, 08:56 AM
you guys all realize that swine flu is very very treatable right? the first case was a 4 year old boy in Mexico and he made a full recovery the next day. The reason its spreading so fast down their is because the medication is incredibly expensive. Wash your hands and try not to touch sick people and you'll be fine. But if you do get it go to the doctor within 2 days of symptoms, take the medicine and go into quarantine for 2 days and your all set.

I was worrying about it last night so i read up on it on the CDC website for probably an hour.

Its really no different than everyone freaking out about getting the flu every year.

Tommy Warren
04-29-2009, 09:03 AM
there was three men in Nova Scotia that had it and all they had for symptoms was the sniffles for two days. On the other hand people say its not a big deal....but thats what they also said about sars.

interesting fact, in 1920 40% of the world caought the swine flu during an outbreak and 50,000,000 people died worldwide...dang it might be a little more serious than i thought:(

04-30-2009, 02:26 PM
My sister thinks she has the swine flu lol. All her symptoms match it. The news said all the face masks are sold out around here.

Whats the difference between the swine flu and the normal flu? The fact that its just a new flu? Because I know the normal flu kills many people every year. I think its just a big deal because its a new one.

I'm not really at all scared of it.

Hows that true? Swine flu was just discovered I thought. If it was known about from back in 1920 I think they would have had a treatment for it long ago since the news said it was going to take only 4 months to make a treatment.

If someone is fairly healthy they will most likely make it through having a flu virus.

Children, the elderly & frail and those with a compromised immune system have a much greater chance of severe complications and even death from a flu virus.

Ok, so like 160 people have died from this flu crap, well i heard on my local news today that 13,000 people have died in the past 5 months from the normal flu that we all have had before.

And they also said that the symptoms are exactly the same in both kinds of flu, WTF??

If 100 people die every week for the next year from swine flu, thats only 5,200 deaths in a whole year.... must be safer to have swine flu???

swine flu, bird flu, flu flu ??????

We had NO antibiotics to fight pneumonia and other secondary infections back in 1918 (which some experts believe accounted for 60% 0f Spanish flu deaths)......we do now.

We also will have a vaccine by fall. Until then, we have Tamiflu and other meds to get us by. Even if this is a "big one", we will NOT see the fatalities in this country like in 1918.

Third world countries is where it will get rough.

It is surreal that what will be an inconvienient sickness in the USA will be a possible death sentence in a poorer country.

Count your blessings my mofos......

This is just a different strain of flu. People dont realize how many strains there are, and we dont have a vaccine for a vast number of them. In the US the flu kills a lot of people every year this is just blown up by the media because it is smashing Mexico. Our technology has grown by leaps and bounds, the statement you made is down right ignorant.

some parts of mexico are beautiful like cabo san lucas. but alot of the places are slums

my stepdad works for a construction company that gets mexicans imported every year to work for them and the saftey director told my stepdad today that when he is arround the mexicans that he needs to be wearing a dust mask just to be safe.

i feel bad bc thats kinda like singling them guys out and i know alot of the mexicans that comes here every year to work for the company being as i used to work for them but the risk aint worth it and go arround them w/o a dust mask and get that disease

what is H1N1?

It's the lab name for the flu.

They're not using the name Swine Flu, because people were thinking they can get the flu by eating pork ( aka swine) ... which killed the sale of pork products in the last 2 weeks. Jewish people were also against it, because pigs are sacred with them.

I don't belive pigs are considered 'sacred' to the Jewish. I don't know the specifics but I belive they consider pigs to be 'unclean' animals and do not eat pork.

Me niether but working in food service i've learned a few things about dietary restrictions. Those who follow a strict Kosher diet have some very specific requirements for what they eat, how it is prepared and around thier Sabbath the day and time of day matters.

When I was researching stoves for my house some of them had special timers to coincide with thier meal time requirements. :eek2:

I like bacon too much to be Jewish:p

Yeah I remember being in hospital a few months ago and it was a Jewish run hospital. I didn't know what a Kosher Diet was up until then. Every dinner menu had a "Kosher " option at the bottom of it .... I was gunna check it off cuz I thought maybe it was some kind of dessert or something ... then someone explained it to me.

But yeah ... I like pork too much too ..... peameal bacon .. mmm mmm goooood.
