Without going out to the garage, I believe the tank is aluminum... Might me time to invest in a new pingry or like style.. The pingry is a very well made item both in theory and construction. Problems are mentioned with dip stick alignment and such.. but overall quality is not comprimised.

next time use a torque wrench. and it wont break off

the thing is not tu use / not use a torque wrench . The stock tank is made out of aluminium .But it is like paper .

I brought it to a welder and he had to fight the thing to get it welded ... He sayd wath a crap thickness . But I got it fixed for 15 $

If memory serves me right, I believe 14 ft/lbs is recomended on that bolt. The tanks are made of a thin material to aid in cooling that hot oil. They need to be serviced gently according to specs.

i didnt use a torque wrench, but it broke when i was loosening it. i must have overtightened it last time. so can i get it fixed at a welder, should i just have it TIG welded?

I'd replace it if I was you with either stock or pingry. That's an item that could cost you alot of motor work if it fails. :(

If it is welded correctly and by a pro , it will not fail .

It can be welded but it's very difficult due to the thickness (well lack of thckness:rolleyes: )

My buddy broke his and couldn't get the hole welded properly so he had them weld a plate over the hole so we could go on our dune trip last summer. He has a Pingrys now:cool:

The EXRIDERS store has a tank for $200+s/h. I'll be getting one soon...if I don't break anything else:eek:

My buddy JB welded his, its held for about a yr now with no problems.

To help prevent breaking the stock oil tank you should let the bike warm up well before changing your oil. Also makes for a cleaner oil change when the engine oil is hot

torque wrenches make it right the first time, if you know how to use one. obviously somebody could have saved themselves some grief with one or this thread wouldn't be here.

Sounds like this Oil tank breaking is a commom problem. I haven't had any problems with mine yet, but I always torque it and have the quad warm when I change the oil. I went to change it last weekend and I couldn't get the dang Crankcase bolt out it was so tight but I torqued it down. I haven't messed with it anymore but will soon because the Oil needs changed. Hopefully my Oil tank will be ok and not so tight.....
