Hey guys
What do I do with my stock 400ex to make it competive with Raptors, Banshees (if its possible) and such. Heres what I was thinking: IMS 440 kit? What are the pros and cons? Is this hard to do myself? I can do top ends on two strokes, so do you think I can do this?
For an exhaust system I was thinking White Bros. These Good?
Hot Cam Stage 2. Do I need to hard face rockers or do anything else to the valves? If so, how much will this cost?
Im trying to keep it under $800, do you guys have anyother ideas? Im going to do a big bore, but im unsure of what kind. The IMS is only 245 for a piston, rings, sleeve and gaskets. Seemed like a good deal. Are there better ones? Please help me, this all needs to be done soon!

You might wuant to think about buying a full TC, LRD, or some kind of kit. You know, like a full engine kit. If you look around you could find a nice one for $800. If not id say a IMS440 kit sounds good. Ive never heard any complaints about it.

LMAO!! me too! and he doesent live that far from me :devil

But to answer your Question, I'd go with a 416 kit. Little to no loss in reliability, and more top-end. The an xr400 cam, k&n filter, fcr39mm carb, and a CFM airbox. For an exhaust I'd go with Sparks, Duncan, or LRD. White brothers are pretty good to. If you going to be racing them on the MX track, get a pair of shocks, arms, tires/beadlocks, Braided lines, axle, and some bars. It all depend on how much $$$ you have.

yeah ridesportrax, you could tackle that project yourself. I've had to tear that whole engine apart before. Definitely helps to have the honda manual, torque wrench and all the other necessary tools. I agree with quad freak as far as getting a full kit from someone so it's either all together and nothing is forgotten. As far as the rockers most of the time you dont need to get them hardfaced or stiff springs if you go with a mild cam but like for racing or when you use a top end cam thats when you need to do those things. I also agree with what others have said on here that you probably dont need a different CDI(rev box) if you go with a midrange type of kit because that's not where the power is and you could put you 100 dollar bill towards something else.

Hey,
Thanks for the help so far. The kit im considering includes a Sleeve, a 440 Wiseco 11:1 Piston, Rings, and gaskets. Is this a complete kit? Other than the cam, what else do I need? Is this reliable? I don't want my engine to die on me.

The bigger you go up the more reliability your losing. I would recommend a 426 or 416 kit.
