OK I ordered my K&N filter for my 2008 outlaw 525s abd i was the wrong size. I had the owner of the shop looking in his 2 catalogs from K&N and neither one had a part number for my model. He is going to call them directly on Monday but has this been a problem for anyone else???? I just want the same size/replacement that the box will fit without doing any cutting mods on the box itself.

I could have sworn that I have seen other members/owners with these filters on their machines that are the same model and year as mine......was I wrong? Am I stuck with the stock, air restricting, nasty, sticky oily filter????

Thanks in advance.

They dont make a direct replacement for the Straight axle Outlaws. You have to go custom. i.e. cut

Is there no other option other than cutting?? Are there replacements for the whole airbox or something along those lines?? I really dont want to cut up my airbox but want the non restrictive filter.

Help!!!!

I've run into the same problem that you have, I don't want to cut my airbox so I don't know what to do. if you figure something out let me know.

There is two kits that know of but you still have to cut. Im building an airbox for my set up.

I have not seen it yet but no-toil makes a direct replacement foam. To get rid of the airbox boot restriction, you need a clamp on, and that goes along with a cut /repaired modified box

I think then that K&N needs to get it into gear and supply for the demand!!

Thanks all for your help on this one!!

I hear Twin Air makes a bolt on foam folter with a higher air flow than stock. Can anyone confirm this???

Thanks for the Pic!
That looks pretty tight. Looks like a clamp on? How do you like it?
Easy to service?
TIA!

I just got it today, so I don't know yet. It's a little bigger then stock and is pre-oiled. It slips right over the stock cage and with it wedged in it holds it against the cage, so it looks tight. But for $13, it's worth a try. Stock is near $30. I also plan on getting the EHS lid also.

It does look it, but it still works well and puts out the same HP as the KTM. A carb can only take in so much air. A clamp on filter really hasn't shown a huge gain over the air box, so for me it's no big deal and I keep the protection from mud and water.

You still have to cut with Rath

I spoke with the Rath reps...yep...it's an air box cut situation. They won't let me see pics of it either and won't say why. Hmmmm...... I just wanted to see what I would be doing to my airbox was all.

the only issue i have with notoil is that once i used their oil on my foam filter in mybike, next time i went to ride it, the filter was toast, like totally disentegrated, went to get a new one, they asked if i used notoil, i said i had, they said they fig'd cause of how it had disentegrated, they asked y i used it, i said it was free when i was last at the shop....

apparently notoil disentegrates certain filters, i would have to assume their filters last with their oil...

it was something about the water soluable oil or something, i dunno exactly, i just went with a cheapo ready filter for the time being.

I picked up a no toil filter for mine last week, haven't put it on yet though. After seein the pic of how it just slides on and no spring or anything to clamp it on really has me questionin if I wanna put it on mine or not haha

yea, i really dunno how much i would trust a slide in filter with no clamps, clips... nothin really to hold it in... esp not without the box lid.

It's got to have something. Maybe they forgot to include the clamp? Or...buy a clamp and save yourself the piece of mind!!!
