Well the 09's really have gotten alot of the bugs out. And from what I've been seeing that they are right up at the front alot. The 08's had alot of problems which really we can all expect and accept for a 1st year quad. But the 09's from what ive been reading and researching are actually a very solid quad. I mean the yes the Limp mode can be a pain but there are many ways to avoid it. By getting the louver kit and getting proper ventalation to the gas tank since it sits so close to the exhaust. But other than that really nothing been going wrong. The clutch has been fixed along with all the other bouletins and recalls.

It just depends on your metric, if it’s the pro’s the failure rate is half that of last year and a substantial improvement. If it’s amateur, 100% improvement, no failures.

Well for most of us we shouldnt even look at the failure rate the pros are having doesnt pertain to even have the abuse that they put on a machine. Now if you are a hardcore mxer and pushing the horsepower limits just like all quads you lose reliability. But most of us wont even do half the upgrades that pros put into there bikes.

You shouldn't worry about the limp mode too much. I just raced mine on sunday in a mud fest of a cross country race and never had any trouble with it over heating. All I did was put some window screen over the front.

Thats funny! I said window screen would work as good or better than louvers and everyone said I was wrong. Tell me did mud pack up on it and what coolant were you using? Was it a hot day?

Please tell me the window screen worked that would make my day! lol! :D

PS: Well said Seed!

It wasn't that warm, but it was really muddy. When the sun came out it might have hit 70. The mud actually didn't pack up to bad. All I did was put 2 layers of window screen on. About halfway through the race I tore the top layer off. As for coolant I was just using the coolant that came in the bike when I bought it from the dealer. I will create a thread with pictures and my thoughts on the DS.

Well I think you may be on to something Kelly for the amateurs that are packing mud on their radiators and don't have access to the louvers or can afford the fourworks. Try getting some fine mesh screen and attaching it to some sheet metal zees you can bend up in a vise and drill attach holes paint it and there you have it, and the good thing about the mesh is it won't obstruct air flow. You can probably get a hold of stronger mesh or chicken wire, just experiment w/different sizes depending on the type of mud you run in.... . If you look at the DS it already has one wall of fine mesh behind the stock louvers, a second wall should do the trick. Maybe drill holes in your number plate so it acts like a mud wall that allows air through too.

Limp or not anything you can do to keep the engine temp down will prolong engine life.
