charge the battery on deep cycle and check the main ground connections off of the battery.

So a direct wire from the battery doesn't make the starter work? Is the battery old?

a straight wire from the battery to the starter does not do anything.even with it grounded out.the battery is brand new i have two other battery's and it does the same thing.could it be a bad wiring harness.bad starter.

My buddy had an '01 Warrior that gave him so much issues electrically it made Yamaha look bad.

His had the same issue; we replaced every wire, cleaned every contact & relay, replaced battery, it ended up being the contacts in the starter multiple times. Quick & dirty fix was to knock the starter with a ball-peen hammer or bolt lightly every time it did it- worked like a charm.
