I know this isnt the right section but it seems this thread is MUCH more active thatn the yamaha section. But this is what I posted on a yamaha blaster forum. Would like to get as much input as possible so..

Alright guys, I got around to taking the blaster apart. Here are some pictures of what things look like. I think it's still stock bore. I Checked the piston size and it was somehow .05 or so under the standard. The rings are also very loose (normal?) the top of the piston has an X. just want to add.

Since it is nowhere over I assume its stock? I guess I will be getting the cylinder honed, but what size piston should I be getting?? .010 over the stock??

That is the part of the cylinder that shows the most scratches. Same with the piston.

thats not a stock piston i had many a blasters, thats a aftermarket but the scratches are from not having it bored when it was redone last time in my opinion never just hone a cylinder it wont ever last as long as a bore. youll have to have it measured and then bored to a piston size prolly .010 or .020 bigger than the bore its at now, for the price go get you a 240 kit and really let her rip, ive beat modded 250r's with my old 240 blaster. the time it sat in waiting for you to fix it prolly did more damage than the sloppy piston, your gonna start eating bearings in the motor left and right. good luck, in the future never let a 2 smoker sit, it horrible on them.

THe piston measured as standard size, a little less somehow. How could it be rebuilt already??

If I can get away with a hone I think im going to do that. THis is not my quad, its a friends that I let a friend borrow and he beat the **** out of it. Im trying to get it running for him again. Boring service sold on ebay is $48 shipped

and how much is it just to hone?

Alright, so I talked to our family mechanic and he said he can get this thing ready for me easily. Hes got the connects and stuff so I can get it bored or honed for dirt cheap for like a few meals from our restaurant :D

He wants me to find out what material the cylinder is made of; steel or iron?

I am getting my cylinder honed by a friend at a bike shop and he wanted me to find out what increments do the piston sizes go up by? Is it:

66.00 = std
66.25 = .010
66.50 = .020
66.75 = .030
etc
