Got new battery, runs ok, problem with Carb

So i got a new battery. Ran it for a few min, took out the spark plug, and it was black. Does this mean im running too rich? I got a white bros exhause, K&N filter, open airbox. I ride at 600ft. How do i go about correcing this issue?
