I am currently racing a 2006 ltz400, you can see the list of mods below in my signature, it has never gave me any problens and probably only has around 25 hours on it, I'm wanting to get into racing more so i thought i should upgrade to a 450 but i'm having trouble selling my 400, i have it listed for $4,000. I recently went to my can am dealer and they said they would take my quad plus $2,000 cash for a brand new 2008 ds450, should i take this deal or will it be a down grade from my quad, because if i do the deal i will only have around another $2,500 to spend on parts for the ds450, so is it worth it or not?

that is an amazing deal. man they are giving away those ds's. I would probley go for it although it is a risk with them things they have a lot of problems but you are getting a 08 450 for 2,000 bucks. Also try to qualify for there racer program and get cheap racing parts

my opinion yes, with 2500 bucks to spend you can make it a legit racing machine. and the DS is a good platform to start on and alot of homewrok has been done. and the racer program will get you alot of stuff for that amount of money

I would do it. There aren't any big problems with these quads, just make sure all the service bulletins have been done to them. with 2,500, you can have a nice set up.

motor mount & flywheel i think & the 2009-9 clutch bulliten. there is a thread about the clutch. the service guys at the dealership should know. i'm the only guy in my area with a ds, so they have no idea what i was talking about when i come to them w/ this stuff. you just have the spoon feed them on what to look up.

If you get approved for the racer program, use 1000 of the 2,500 and buy yourself the shocks, a-arms, axle, and stem. You get a free pipe, and ecm, and a ton of other stuff. you will have 1,500 left to get anything after that.. some nice beadlocks, maybe a stabilizer...

You can not use the Can Am account for the 75% off packages, and the $1000 account is for Can am parts only so to say you can go buy a stabilizer is incorrect. You could buy the Black Beadlocks using the account but not just "anything"

Sounds like a good deal. I'd go for it.

The reason your not selling the Z though is because your asking too much for it.

whats a reasonable price for the z, i mean i thought that may be a little high but ive checked on ebay and craigslist and mines alot better than others in that price range, i mean it has alot of money invested with very little hours under 25 probably

that crazy that the dealership is giving you like 4000 for your trade in. not putting down your quad just saying they are giving you a heck of a deal.

yes i know however it is a left over 08 base model, and from what i've herd there having touble moving these ds's and they really just want to get rid of them

You could expect between $3000-$3500 for your Z and I would say realistically closer to $3000. The problem is your competing against 450's in the same price range with the same mods or more. To sell a 400 in this market you have to have someone that just plain and simple wants a 400 over a 450.

well see thats the thing if i dont trade for this ds450 i dont really have a problem with keeping it i mean i weight 140 so i dont really have much of a problems keeping up with the 450's except on long straights, and there are people out there that love these z/s so if i dont trade i think i'll leave it close to 4000 and if it sell it sells if not no problem

i would just to get a new bike. the 08's are fine just have the dealer do the clutch update and if you get the rider support stuff if gives you a bunch of stuff that helps with other problems the pros were having. i wish the dealer down here would give me a deal like that down here.
