chain and brake ?'s

I just changed my swing arm on my 96 300ex. I didnt pay attention to how the spring on the footbrake came off when I took out the pivot bolt. Also i am having trouble putting the chain back on. (no master link) I have loosened the chain adjuster and it still wont go back on. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure why the chain won't go on, but I also took the spring off the rear brake. It isnt hard to get it on once you have it oriented right. I will try to remember to take a picture of mine tonight or tomorrow.
