+2 arms, 11:1 416 at least, 450 carb, stage 1 hotcam for the low end, port and polish, good shocks, hinson clutch 8 plate, taller steering stem anti-vibe, bigger gas tank, razr 2 or equivalent tires and good rims, extended axle. that is about $4000 at least. it would be nice with all of that though. steve

Did you do anything with the valves?

just valve lapping to get them to seal perfect again. I did not do it though, when i had my head port and polished, my cylinder bored, and my valves put back in for me they lapped them too. I do not have the correct tool to put the valves back in easy so they did it. i would say you do not need oversize valves unless you are at least a 440 or even a 460. i dont think it will make a huge difference but you could if you are looking to get every horsey out of the 416. steve

i'm putting my 416 back together now and i'll be running in XC next season. i have a 11:1 416, Stg. 2 hotcam, e-series slip-on, and factory carb. And this summer i'm getting a set of burgard +1 a-arms. I think that shuld be enough for me to run XC. As far as valvetrain, i had the cycle shop replace everything with factory parts, i dont think you need any serious head work.

I am starting to like the reliabilty of the 416. My 400 has finished every race it has started. Most the time I am the only 400 in the bunch and I do very well. A riding buddy just got a 416 and I know it will keep up with a 450 any day and he sucks. It is a fact that people have alot of problems with the 450 motor, and it is very $$$ to fix. Look how much people spend in oil every year. Most people change the oil every 2 hours. My son and I ride 300 out 364 days a year and anybody that knows me will tell you I am telling the truth. That would be another factor the maintaince. The shoe don't fit everybody. I not going to get in a yelling match on what is better 416 or 450. I just want to know how people are building their 416 motors. imo
