2009 GNCC Series-Round#5-Loretta Lynn's-Race Coverage

Round# 5 of the Can Am GNCC Series headed into the heartland as the event series made it's way to the beautifel ranch owned by country singing superstar, Loretta Lynn. This round can be rough on the racers as the rocks and hills take their toll. For the youth, its a fun round as the atmosphere is really relaxed and there is alot to do if you can get there early!

The fun aside, the Youth racers would be up bright and early for the 8 am start and would be getting the usualy instruction as race time approached.

Super Mini was first off the line and it would be Levi Coen out front as he rips through the first turn.

Gage Rickman would be charging hard as he leads out 90 Mod 11-15

The first turn at Loretta's has seen some of the sports greatest MX stars send its soil skyward as the world famous MX track is utilized.

Tristan Garrett would jump out to the lead as he heads through the first turn with the rest of 90 Limited giving chase!

70 CVT's Brandon Frazier would be out front as grabs the holeshot!

On the course, Levi Coen gives his Pitster Pro machine all it can handle as a hard charhing Doug Howarth keeps him in check

Blake Chirdon would become unmounted as he exited turn 1, however he would put his head down and race back hard and finish 2nd in 90 Mod!

Jay Shadron would once again be hard on the throttle as he raced to another class win. Shadrons run to the front would also see him claim the second overall position as he once again finds the podium!

Allie Slate would run to a 6th place finish today!

Brayden Schick would score himself his 2nd staright class win in 90 Mod 8-11!

The young racers are a blast to watch, and the battles here are among the best you will see all day!

Tristan Garrett ran his way to the 90 Limited 8-11 class win marking his first class win of the season!

Brandon Frazier would see his first class win as well at this round as he rode to vicory in 70 CVT!

Ryan Earley would just miss the podium as he finished 4th overall.

Levi Coen would win the Supermini battle and claim the 3rd podium position!

Charlie Welch would run into issues this round and finish way off his usual pace. Tough break Charlie!

After the race, a cracked spark plug cap was discovered and once replaced, Charlies machine was ready to breathe fire and spit out little girls!

The Morning race immediatley follows the youth and many have to hustle to get in place as time is faster then the racers at these events!

Angel Atwell has a huge swell of confidence this season and rightfully so. Claiming wins in the first 4 rounds has her on top of the points and looking for more!

4x4 Open would see Bryan Buckhannon working his Can Am to the front as the class heads out

Sans numberplates, I can't ID a few of these classes but from the looks of it, they werent wasting anytime getting out of the starting area in a hurry!

Getting out front is important in any class, however in some larger classes, it can mean the difference of a clean run on the first lap, or alot of wated time caught in bottlenecks!

Lorettas is not known as a great spectator track, but there si plenty to see from the infield areas of the mx track and the track winds in and out of the parking area.

The classes pour off the line all exciting in their own ways. Glen Vair leads out the 20+C class, as Jared Cooper and Michael Bailey give chase.

The starts are about the best chance one has of wrecking....well infront of everyone anyway:p

The good thing about GNCC racing is that for the most part, one can bring a basically stock ride to the event and have fun!

Sometimes lady luck helps you out! The fence post acted as a bumper for the front tire and bounced him back off that fence and pole!

4x4 Lites has seen dismal turnouts as usually on 2 or 3 have entered the class. For Cliffton Beasley, the pitboard reads have fun as he would ride to another win!

Several hundred miles away, Mark Baldwin was taking care of things at the AMA MX National at Birch Creek.....and his thoughts were on his riders in the GNCC as he asked for any info anyone had.

Last years leaves get shredded as the green growth of spring starts to take over. This round marks a big change in most of the easts weather and from here on out, heat will start to play a role in the racing

Rick Cecco would finish 2nd today, and he has his eye on finishing well at every round and the class championship!

Traci Cecco would be the first to reach the checkered flag and claim her first win of the 2009 season!

The Pro race would once again be highly anticipated as the nations best prepared to battle. Adam McGill has stated his goal is the championship and his game plan is simple, reach the podium every round.

Chris Borich has been hard on the gas all season and looks towards the end of the season as well with the championship in his grasp.

Taylor Kiser, toughing it out as a Privateer. He may be turning his own wrenches but this could be just what the young racer needs to keep the drive alive as he too works towards that championship himself.

William Yokely gets ready to give his Polaris a workout and a shot of Oxygen wouldnt hurt just prior to the start. Ive seen these alot this season, and even noticed many of the Pro MX racers using them as our top riders now are more athletes then one day a week racers.

Don Ockerman hams it up prior to the start. Ockerman is as tough as nails, he just needs a touch of luck and he will be back on that podium!

The first turn maylay would suck up Kiser, Borich, Cook and Derisi can be seen on his way to the dirt as his machine starts to flip

Tyler Lenig would be out front as some of the series biggest names were left at the first turn as they tried to get untangled and back on course.

The XC1 class leaders would soon find themselves on new portions of the track that the morning racers did not run. The leaves hide things that go bump and thud...but these guys will have it cleared in no time:p

Borich would find his way to the front, only to snap a chain which ruined his chances at a win or a trip back to the podium

McGill had made it to the front of the pack and was now running behind Ballance

Cook had clawed his way to the front as well as he now began pressuring Johnson

Sommers was riding the wheels off of his YFZ450R and was moving up fast!

Sturdivant remained in the 10th spot as he was putting together a solid race.

Eric Hoyland didnt get a great start but would put his head down and drive to teh front of XC2

Eric had this to say about his race:

"Four in a row. All of a sudden, third place doesn't seem good enough. But McGill proves that you don't have to win every race to win a championship. So I will hold my head up high and just keep having fun, and it will all work out the way it is supposed to. I had a mid-pack start. Working my way to fourth on the first lap was a task on its own, but then I battled it out for two laps with Parker Jones and Kevin Yoho, who are two awesome riders. I had a lot fun riding with them but when the checkers dropped I found myself in third again. If consistency and confidence wins championships, then I've got it!

Parker Jones would find Loretta's a bit better to him as he rode to a 4th place finish in XC2

Parker reported after the race...

"As the green flag flew my bike started and I entered the first turn in the top five. I battled back and forth for the fourth position on lap one but checked in fifth. Lap two was a side by side battle. I took the inside corner and moved into second. After that I ended up taking the wrong line and got passed back by Kirkland and ran third for the rest of lap two. On lap three I stopped for fuel and fell back to fifth. I had to battle my way through lappers to try to retain a podium position. The white flag was out and still no sign of third or fourth spot ahead. I became worried that I was going to finish in fifth but about five hundred yards from the finish line I saw a lime green tag on the back of a helmet. I had a feeling I could gain another position. As I approached Yoho I noticed he was riding without a left footpeg which had slowed him down. I made my pass and checked in for the number four position. I was happy to get my best XC2 finish and overall to date."

Walker Fowler would charge ahead and win College A and again was the top Amatuer rider!

Hunter Miller would give GNCC racing a go as he competed in the XC1 class. Hunter finished 17th at todays event.

The Yamaha pit was packed as Bill Ballance was now set to win his first race of the season, and with fellow Yamaha teammate Brandon Sommers moving into striking range, the race took on a whole new meaning for these guys as they have worked so hard to make this all possible!

Borich would be disappointed but if its manmade it can be broken!

McGill assumed the lead as Ballance gets some shouting support from his team

McGill pitted for a splash of fuel as Ballance zipped by, taking the risk and the lead!

McGill would pull out and find himself on Sommers grab bar!

Yokely was having a decent race as he ran in 7th and gets a big thumbs up from the National Guard members in attendence!

Pickens would also have a solid race and would end up in the 9th spot

Yamaha fans erupted when Bill Ballance emerged form the woods with the lead and was only a few turns from his win!

The finish was tight, with the top 3 all in view of each other at the checkered flag!

For Adam McGill, this race was one more towards his goal. I know we will see him win a few, but when the championship is on the line, you have to make decisions....so far he has made alot of right ones!:D

For Sommers, getting back on the podium was much needed. He has been working hard to get things going the way he wants them to go and his work has paid off!

This win has got to be a huge relief for Bill Ballance. With his injury and having to rebuild himself this season, this was icing on the cake! The season still has alot of racing left, and I for one would never count Ballance out of the hunt!
