Guys and gals, I am in this little polishing kick right now and want to make my engine all shiny and stuff lol.

I was wondering if it would hurt to polish the head on a 400EX or any other air cooled engine?

also I guess I should specify, by polishing I meant using a buffer and buffing it to a shiny surface, not doing engine mechanical work

i would say that it would take some major work but i have seen it done on others. It would look pretty cool to have it shiny. I would start with sanding it down with finer and finer sand paper then use some polish. I am not totally sure how that would work though. steve

it's a pain to do it because of the fins, also if it isn't maintained after every couple of rides (especially dirty rides) than it goes to crap quick.

Clean your engine, take a can of heat proof paint (black is realy nice) Spray all your fines on the inside then start polishing. What ever you cant get will be black it looks realy realy nice, try to make it even... Thought its unbelievably long. A good way is with a brass brush on a drill. Here is a pic of my friends bike and he did..
