Alright. my clutch was a little out of adjustment to begin with. I just put on my asv lever and perch.

Question 1: The two wires that connect to the stock perch allow you to start in gear correct? So i need to splice these right?

Question 2: I have no freakin clue how to make the clutch work. I tried messing with the perch adjustment and then down on the engine but nothing worked. It wont roll with the clutch pulled in and will pop into gear when i pull in the clutch and shift down.

Thanks

1 yes the wires need to be connected together.

2 sounds like your clutch is too loose. I adjust the cable until there is a little free play in the lever. I dont like it to be to tight could cause premature wear.

well...just turn the know near the lever until you see it start to pull the lever tight...but you should definatelty keep some play in the lever at least 1/4 inch....so once you get that adjusted i would think you should be ok

Ok il try that. What do the the little adjusters do near the engine?

well thats an adjustment too...usually you would only need to adjust at the lever though....however if that still isnt quite right you can adjust on the engine one a little at a time too...start at the lever and see what happens.....
btw...was it working ok before you made the lever change?

yes it was working ok. It needed to be adjusted a little but other than that it was fine. To get the lever on i had to loosen the cable up and now i cant get the clutch to work. I shift down into first wiyth the clutch pulled in and it pops into first and stalls...

Ok...then i would think definately just a simple adjustment on the lever/perch....so I take it that there is alot of play in it now?

Just keep working with it until you get the tension on it about like it was but again with that little bit of play (1/4 inch) just look at it as your making the adjustment and notice that one part of the adjustment pushest the outer cable away from the perch and thats what causes the tension...

jkiserracing
04-19-2009, 08:15 AM
hmmm......i cant either....ok is the clutch lever tight...meaning is the cable not able to come off unless you loosen it like you did to get the old one off.....

so in other words does it look like it should be right?

Everything seems to be tight.... Unless i screw the adjustment knob on the perch all they way in the cable wont come out.

well then its working...its just not pulling it enough.....i have been trying to figure this out and im quite baffled....the only other thing i can possibly think of is if its the correct clutch lever for your bike........it should look similar to this

on the lever adjustment there is a lock nut, loosen that locknut and next to that nut is the adjusting screw, screw it counter-clockwise, opposite of a clock, then tighten the locknut and see what happens. you may have to turn it out further than you would think.
