Okay, I am going to rebuild my engine, hopefully either this evening or tomorrow morning, but i have some ??'s. I have a JE 416/87mm 12:1 comp. piston, and was wondering if anybody knew the correct ring gap, and what would be a good method to gap them?
Thanks,
Eric

JE will answer those questions if you call their tech line.

I have tried to contact JE and they are closed for the weekend i assume, and i would really like to get this thing together this weekend. I go to college, and am not home during the week. There is a race in Louisiana next weekend, and i am trying to get it put together so i can make the race. Just wondering if anybody on here has this info.

Just some FYI the JE pistons run just a tad smaller than wisco the JE 416 is 86.5mm not 87 so if you already have a 416 with a Wisco the JE will not work. I learned that the hard way.

my quad has a 89mm and it is 435cc. i know others who have told me their 440 is 89.5 with wiesco. so i think your correct.

I am going from a stock bore, so the wiseco/JE thing will not effect mine.... and my JE says 87mm on the piston, but the JE website says it will actually be a 415. so i guess there is the size diff... I just need to know this ring gap stuff. I would hate to have to do this process all over again b/c i didnt do something right!!

I am on my second JE 416 piston. I put the rings on straight out of the box and I have yet to have a problem. I had a oil problem with the first engine and smeared it all down the cylinder.

I have been building engines for over 10 years. Trust me they will work straight out of the box.

NOTE: There is one ring with a beveled edge. It is hard to tell but the widest part should go down towards the oil ring. It is to scrape the excess oil off the cylinder wall when the piston goes down.

Other than that the install is pretty straight forward.
