400 ex stator

i have a buddy that has a 400ex and it was running rough, spitting and sputtering, when it got up to operating temp. We figured out it was the stator---tried the stator off my 400ex and it worked fine. We got a new stator and put it in and he had been riding it some and it started doing the samething again. I haven't looked at it yet, but does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? I wouldn't think that the new stator would have gone bad already. Just looking for some ideas. Thanks.

put a multimeter on the battery and make sure the battery when the bike is running is running 13 to 14.5 volts DC current... if thats fine then take the carb apart and look at the jets... see if the pilot jet is clogged... most of the time that is the problem... that or in general the bike may not be jetted correctly... also... old gas can cause that... after 10 days with the same gas in the tank the octane starts getting lower... o and check the spark plug too
