Would shocks that measure 17" from eyelet to eyelet be considered long travel or is it usually more than that?.

No i believe not. Some long travels are 20 inches in lengh. They could be some off brand. but not likely. Any pictures of them? What brand?

Those would most likely be standard travel for a 400ex or 450R.

i would guess 450r because the 400ex shocks are nearly the same as the 250r.

17" would be standard for a 450r but would it be standard for a 250r? The shocks I have are works triple rate. The only way they will bolt up is if I lift the front of my quad take the tie rods off to get maximum travel. If I leave the tie rods on the a-arms don't have enought travel to get the bottom bolt in.

Thats what I was afraid of.

Although if 17" is standard for a 450R how are all these people running 450R shocks on there 250R's?

But you are going to need to get differnt tie rod ends. heim type, or modify your steering stem bottom. Do you have stock a arms or aftermarket? +2? +3? It will work great as i have done it with 450r front shocks. But it just works better with longer a arms.

My arms are +2.

good deal. Actually there is one more thing you can do. If you want to, you could cut some of the tab off just below the bolt hole, and drill new holes lower. and then you might and i say might because i have never tried this, not have to do anymore modifiying.

You know I actually thought of that. Being a machinist it would be pretty easy to do but not sure i wanna start drilling holes in my a-arms. Probably gonna look into different tie rod ends

haha ya it seems like it would be bad. but its really not a bad idea. ive seen it done in a picture before and it looked factory if you take your time.

Ya like I said before I know I could do that but don't really want to. It's starting to look like I might need to get standard travel shocks or long travel arms.

long travel shocks will not work with standard travel arms. how much do you want for the werks?

I wouldnt even consider redoing the tabs on the a arms. I might have a set of elka triple rate comp adj remote res ST shocks for sale that would work on your a arms here soon. I would sell your shocks first and buy a set of shocks that will work on those arms before messing up the arms. They are worthless if you alter them, but its your machine obviously....it might work

Now i can see your point, but they would defeneatly not be worthless! there are lots of people who would love to do that exact set up. and would give you good money for the a arms if you decided to do this and sell the a arms later on.
