You must be putting out some serious HP to turn those rear tires. I'd like to know more about your engine setup.

thanks everybody. the bike has a crap load a stuff done to it but i'll tell all i can remember.

+4mm crank works crank with carrillo rod
cases machined for piston to come down in side the casings
JE 440 14.1 piston
LRE ported and polished head with titanium valves, valve retainers, and heavy duty springs
hardened rockers
the biggest web cam made
1-3 overide tranny
hinson clutch and basket
44mm lectron on alky setup by packard with 10 inch k&n filter
crf 450 timing chain
trinity stage IV pipe
+6 chromoly swinger
chromoly wheelie bar
jj&a drag cut front wheels with 17 inch smooth buffs
douglas blus labels with 22-11-8 superbuff 12 paddle haulers with kevlar paddles
3 struts
drag cut plastic front and back with cut seat

Theres probably more but i cant remember all of it.

JE 440 14.1 piston!

snap....

What do you think your total displacement is with the stroked crank?

i think a +4 crank and 440 bore makes a 460.

droppedmazda
04-16-2009, 11:34 AM
yeah brians right it is a 460.

droppedmazda
04-16-2009, 11:35 AM
the piston is huge. you can see a picture of the piston under the "what you did to your quad today" thread.

jcs003
04-16-2009, 12:32 PM
i have a JE 89mm piston in mine that is 12:1, the bore makes it 435cc. it makes alot of power so i wonder what a 440cc 14:1 can do.

04-16-2009, 09:21 PM
all those mods with stock oil cooler and no fan :eek2:

droppedmazda
04-16-2009, 09:42 PM
the bike never gets hot enough to run a bigger cooler or fan. it goes down the track and then it gets pulled back to the start line. the alcohol also keeps the motor alot cooler than race gas.

randallp1
04-18-2009, 01:12 AM
what kinda times you plan to put down? have you ever put down a 1/8th mile time? what is your jetting on the lectron? was it ever set up for race fuel? i just got a 44mm on my rebuild stroker and have no idea where to start. i heard that the lectrons are the hardest to tune but put out the most power.

droppedmazda
04-18-2009, 02:44 AM
i plan to run 200 foot mostly. i want to run 3.50s to 3.60s on motor an then see about the bottle. its never been on a asphault track but i'd say 6.80s to 7.10s in 1/8 mile but thats just guessing. i've never messed with the carb and its never been on gas, packard set the carb up and all we've adjusted is idle but we will be tuning a little on it this year. if we do good adjusting it, i will try to give u some idea of what to do. lectrons are the hardest carb to get right but they are good carbs. is your bike a trail bike? if so i would just bore a 39 fcr and run that. the fcrs are pretty easy to mess with and they stay adjusted alot better than the lectrons.

Hows it pull the 12 paddles? I'm running a similar set up only without the bar and running zippers. I run 300ft drags now in MI and have not tried the 12's yet. Whats the avg times your runnin? We have a new porta tree set up (pro tree) for this season (used to be heads up) so this will be the first timed run at that track just curious what times to look for. Good lookin bike!

droppedmazda
04-20-2009, 11:23 AM
in 300 ft. your not goin to do that well because these bikes do there best in the first 200 ft. if you have close to what i have you'll prolly 60 foot about 1.4 to 1.5. as far as 300 foot times i hope to run 4.7s to 4.8s. i pull the 12 paddles really well and might even try a little bigger paddle. i hope to run 3.5s to 3.6s in 200 ft. off the bottle. i don't think that those zippers are enough tire for that bike if it runs like mine. zippers are a hard packed tire. if i were running hard pack track, i would find a set of pro wedge 1s. with pro wedges your 60 ft. should be hell of alot better.

Our track was new last year, hard packed at the start of the year and getting softer as we run more. I was thinking about running a 10 pdl, didnt want to bog out of the hole, What gearing are you runnin? I was hoping to get in the low-mid 5's 300......that is a pretty large class 4stroke wise. No bottle just runnin 110 wondering how/what #'s alky would get

droppedmazda
04-21-2009, 10:31 AM
your not goin to pick up much time on alky. alky mostly just keeps your motor cooler and is cheap. it will pick up a little but not much. if u have a pretty hot motor and an overide tranny, i think you could probably pulle the twelve paddles with a small rollout. right now im running stock gearing but when i get to track im gonna start going down until i like it.

Chukkinsod
04-21-2009, 10:42 AM
No override or lockup just hinson set up. Gonna try a set of 10's this weekend at our 1st T&T day this weekend. Hopefully put down consitant times. It doesnt look like your runnin an airbox....I want to do the same but it doesnt look like there is enough room to run K&N direct. Did you go with a smaller (narrow) filter or build a custom pipe to carb set up?

droppedmazda
04-21-2009, 10:48 AM
mine has about a 8 inch spacer between the carb and filter with a 10 inch k&n filter. it'll work alot better than the airbox and filter but you'll prolly have to rejet.

04-21-2009, 01:36 PM

i am culeless when it comes to sand racing.. so you don't run any shocks/springs at all then??

droppedmazda
04-21-2009, 03:15 PM
i dont run sand. most dune quads do have some type of suspension, usually shaws. i run dirt, but no i don't run any shocks at all. it usually dont rare up as easy with no shocks.

that was a good lokking bike before you started. i'd like to see pics of the bike now. theres still alot of weight you can get rid of. i think you bought that swinger off of blue_ex rider. he lives right down the road from me. i ride his new bike. i'll post some pics of his bike when i go out there today. its fast as hell. you can get rid of your front brakes and get a set of spindle wheels, that would save you alot of weight. you need to get as much weight off as you can. i spent 2 hours last night cutting off 1 pound. lmk what kind of times you put down when you get to the track.

Chukkinsod
04-23-2009, 11:52 AM
Thanks, I'll keep you posted. Sat we are going to T&T, probably have to tweak a little. This is the first run on fresh build (sent the old cylinder to the heavens) Hopefully I can get some consistant times. I would love to shed the brakes, battery box, airbox, lighter drag bars and but I still dune ride this bike, so I still have to keep it reliable and safe. I run shocks out there...way too damn whooped out to run struts (end up like a lawn dart) I sort of want the best of both worlds.......dune/drag. 19" spindle mounts with smooth buffs would be the way to go...

ok i'll try and get some pics tonight and post them.

i'm running 14/38 gearing now. it was 15/38 but i'm trying to set it up for 200ft and i might go lower when i get to the track.

a 4.7 is faaaaaaast for a 400 although yours is no where near a 400 but still the thought of any 400 with any mods goin that fast is pretty darn quick i know guys runnin 3.330 on their drag bikes in albany, oregon

droppedmazda
04-25-2009, 02:50 AM
your right, 4.7 is fast for a 400ex on motor. thats what im hopin to run, maybe even faster but i could be wrong and ill let everybody know if i am. these bikes turn on in the first 200 feet and we run alot of that around here. if it wont do 3.6s in 200 feet it might be for sale but i do have the power to go that fast i think. what were your buddys riding that went 3.30s? do you know a guy named nick that races banshees? if you dont know the nick i'm talkin bout, you prolly don't know him.

blue_ex_rider
04-25-2009, 09:40 AM
The track at Albany does turn some fast times out there. I have heard of a10mm running 3.6's on motor out there at albany. I also heard that cam at redline runs some pretty good times out there along with john green. But i would have to say that albany is prolly the fastest track in the country if not top 3. Wish i were closer id like to run it I hear its a pretty nice track as well. And if am not mistaken it is also a planetsand cetified track so the times you run there are pretty offical.

haha cameron and green are my home boys... jim iverson and sean blemm with AIM racing have the WORLD record for fastest consistant time i think it was a 3.357 which was set at albany. they're pretty cool guys too we all kicked it at dunefest last year along with matt from DTR racing if you know who he is. and yes the times are all official. but yeah dude you should come out sometime its a lot of fun... loud as hell... but lots of fun.

As far as I'm concerned...drag racing is the only racing worth doing, but I don't knock the MX/XC guys, its just not my forte, its always the slow poeple that seem to be against drag racing.

By the way droppedmazda, thats a sharp looking bike.

sorry guys i havnt been on here in a while. i have raced it alot this year and turned out alot of 3.6s in 200ft on motor and some 3.5s and 3.4s on nitrous but i took the nitrous back off. i have a few videos of it but i dont know how to load them.

07-19-2010, 12:50 PM
put them on photo bucket then tran. them over like you do the pics. what are you mods ? i drag race a 400ex at a drag strip 1/8 mile and it runs 8.40s on motor . and was your nos a wet or dry shot ? what size shot did you run? im going nos. i have a dry shot but im going to go to the wet shot.

07-19-2010, 12:51 PM
if you want you can pm me the info. and are you going to sale your nos set up?

droppedmazda
07-19-2010, 01:09 PM
ill try to get some video up asap, ill get my girlfriend to try later.
my bike has:
je 89mm 14.1 piston
crankworks 4mm stroker crank w/ carrilo rod
drag ported head w/ titanium valves and retainers with heavy duty springs
web cam(biggest they make) with hardened rockers
1-3 cut tranny with hinson clutch and basket
hd head studs
44mm lectron on alky
8" k&n filter
crf timing chain
hinson quick change cover
struts
5 spoke spindle mount wheels
studs on rear
+6 chromoly swinger
rpm drag axle w/ banshee hubs
4 bar wheelie bar

the nitrous was a nx wet shot. i sprayed a 20 shot. im gonna put it back on later this year. if your gonna spray a very big shot, i would get a dyna programmable cdi and pull some timing out of it before i sprayed. i kept spinning counter balancer bearings out of mine and one of my friends blew the front out of his cases on nos like 3 times.

JOHNDOE83

This is by far the baddest EX this site has ever seen!!!

Im trying to get the money for a override or a airshifter, Im also thinking of taking the plunge to alky, more then likely E85.

Im doing a few more mods to mine then taking it apart to do alot of work to it...chassis mods, swinger, alky, stroke, more secrets...etc.

Im not going NOS, theres a youtube video of a busa blowing up on the line and a piston shoots up threw the motor, threw the tank, and hits the rider so hard he jumps off the bike in pain....lol.

i actually dont think thats a piston, the way the motor is designed it wouldnt come through that way, looks like the intake possibly? or something else but i dont think a piston would come through the side like that

droppedmazda
07-19-2010, 09:18 PM
thanks for the compliments on the bike. i dont know much about E85, just heard a few things about it. i do know that alky is the only way to go if your gonna race. its way cheaper than race gas which it does take 1.7 times more fuel to run but its still cheaper. you can look forward to about a 7% power gain if jetted properly and the motor runs cooler. the only down side is you have to get it out of the motor within a day or two of race purging with gas. if you have any questions im more than willing to help.

Looks like you got the alky set up dialed in good, no lag out. I see yours does the chatter hop like mine out of the hole! I cant figure out if its from the struts or the tire size. How was it settin up that 44mm Lectron (might try new carb)? Always glad to see ex's out there disapointing people!

droppedmazda
07-20-2010, 11:52 PM
mine wheel hops out of the hole because the wheelie bar isnt set where it needs to be. i adjusted about 20 times that night but just couldn't get it set right because of the difference in lanes. if your gonna switch to a lectron i would deffinately recommend it but you probably dont need a 44mm unless you have alot of work done to it. it was actually pretty easy to setup just make sure you get one with a pe5 needle and alky needle and seat, also make sure you get one with a power jet. alky is actually a little easier to tune than gas, it has a 15% tunability and gas only has 7%. meaning you can be 7.5% lean or rich on alky but only 3.5%lean or rich on gas and still not lose power. remember to multiply you jet size by some where around 1.7 for alky but if you get a carb they should tell you about where to start at, then you just tune by reading the plug.

how much hp do you think thats pushing?

Chukkinsod
07-21-2010, 02:32 PM
I have basically the same set up you have minus the override. Do you need to run an external fuel pump for the alchy set up? I have a few friends runnin alchy now on R's. Is the Packard set up with thier mods already installed worth the extra coin? I want to run the alchy set up for cooling, cost, performance, availabilty reasons - but in the end is it worth the tuning and constant purging headaches?

droppedmazda
07-21-2010, 11:47 PM
i think its some where between 60-65 hp, but i might be over estimating.

to me, its deffinately worth it to switch to alky. it only takes a few minutes to purge it, and the cost is deffinately alot lower. if you buy a 55 gallon drum of alky, you can get for about 2.00 a gallon. alot of race fuels are between 10.00 and 15.00 a gallon. packard is the only way to go on a lectron.

Not sure why that is happening. I Drag my ex along with many others, I use this for info and potentialy to help out someone that has not got the sickness yet. I want to see what other Ex's of the same caliber are runnin and with what set up. Locally, you only see the same bikes in your class every race. There are several ex's out there that can hold there own and down right upset people. Nothing feels better than putting a bike on the trailer that should have beat you. THATS RACING!

Eric,

people that complain about drag race talk are usually too slow....thats why they don't want to talk about it.

Do your thing...they will get over it.

but what they dont get is.
we the consumer come on here and tell people what works and what we have found that dont.
and we use the videos to prove it.

Cool looking quads, and nice videos!

I race my street bike (mostly 1/8th mile), as well as my car. I have taken my stock 400ex down the track a few times as well. I only run asphalt, though.

Every time I do, I start getting the itch to modify it to race!:D So far I have managed to resist the urge, lol
