Hey guys. I am looking to buy some new paddles and some cheap wheels so I don't have to play around swapping the paddles to my current wheels. A quick look at Rocky Mountain ATV showed that I can get some plain douglas rims in either .125, .160, or .190. I am assuming this is the thickness of the wheel????

Can I get away with .125 or should I spend the extra money on the .190?

Thanks to anyone that can help me.

if its just for the dunes, .125 is prefectly fine!
thats all we've ran and never bent one.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on tire height and width vs. wheel width?

I currently have a 13T Front Sprocket in, I'm contemplating going back to the stock 14T though.

when i run the fromt sand tires, they are sand stars, 22x8 i think, or maybe the next size down and they work great!

all my rear tires are 20x11x10 on douglas blue label.
ive ran, sand star rears, and sand shark. the sand stars have better traction than the sharks, but the sharks are a whole lot easier to slide with.

my setup is in my signature, and i dont have any problems. running a 13t sprocket allows me to drop the clutch in 2nd without it bogging, and also allows me to dune slowly in third, and not worry about stalling it.

the 1st downside i found was this past weekend, when i was dragging against 450s and other 400s, i got up to top speed faster then the rest, but my top speed was slower than theres.
it was flat drags.

If you can, mount the fronts on stock wheels, if you do any kind of jumping or fast paced riding you will not have issues with breaking them down and cleaning the bead, on the rear I would say spend an extra few bucks and go with the thicker, the thinner really bend alot easier.

Personally, I would not get anything thinner than the .160's (black label). Even in the dunes I've seen quite a few bent .125 (blue label's).

I'm running douglas black label's and have hit roots, and trees more times than I can count. They still are in perfect shape.

Lighter the better Blue Lable!!! at least 9" wide I know Dave and Joe at Fullerton Sand Tires love to run 10" wide you have to silicone the beads to make sure no sand gets into the bead, I just run 9"wide on all my quads better floatation than the 8" wide all Blue Lable.
LT500 10 x 9" Blue
DS730 10" x 9 Black Going to have Blues made next
TRX250 10" x 9 Blue
Blaster 10" x 9" Blue
Mojave 10" x 9" Blue
LT80 8" x 7" Blue

ive been running .125 blue labels on the rear with sand sharks since 2001.
they are 10 inch wide. the first few years i got sand in the bead because i only ran 3 or 4 psi, now i run 6-9 depending on the sand. and i never have flats.

i am not easy on my 400 either. i have crashed many times and have been to the hospital a few times becasue of it. i have not bent them, and i jump every time i can! when i find a good launching jump, i go BIG, and mostly land on flat ground, rear end first. i land so hard that the front end bounces up from bottoming out so hard.

so .125 are fine for sand in my opinion

Thanks for the info guys, now my next question is wheel diameter. I have stock 10's now, but I see that 8" wheels are an option. 8" wheels should be lighter, so will that create more wheel spin???
