i went out and warmed up the bike and then i adjusted the throtal and the set screws on the carb and tryed to put the airbox lid back on for this weekend and im guna go mudding and its been raining a lot layly didnt wana kill my moter and it didnt work i just keeps tryen to die when i have it on so ill go without
then i took her out and did some donuts and drove a bit

I polished some aluminum on mine, cleaned my plastics even though they didnt need it lol and I ordered her a 14 tooth front sprocket and a parking brake removal kit with a ez pull clutch perch and a new clutch cable, she is a spoiled girl but purrrrrrrrrrrdy lol

I put the final touch on mine, and got it back together (it was in about 1000 pieces after it's spring cleaning). Tonight will be it's maiden test voyage with the new Sparks key and rejetted 450r carb. I can't wait!!

well today I pushed mine out of the garage to get the rhino out so I could spray some of the mud off. After I did that I warmed it up took it around the yard and up and down the road a couple of times and then that was it. Tomorrow or friday will be a good 2-3 hr clean of everything and get it all shiny and waxed. Then saturday I will mess up all my hard work with mud from the ride.

Got mine out today at a local riding area for about an hour n a half. Finally got the balls to stard jumping. Didnt do to bad, still trying to get consistent in the air(nose up/down). Def need to upgrade the front shocks and get a CCP stabilizer. The bike runs great though- UNI, no lide, 40/150 jets-pulls great,no bog.

I just got finished rebuilding the engine. I started a little project to replace my stock cam with a HotCam Stage 1 cam, but then I stripped out two of the cylinder head cover bolts in the cylinder, so it turned out to be quite a project. Just got it all back together last night and today I'm gonna get it all back together 100% and install my 450R carb and finish relocating my battery to my airbox. I'll try to post some pics when I'm done.

it took some time but i finally got my oil temprature dipstick, is homemade and can go up till 550 degrees, i mde the marks of the full level on th probe and the jb weld dried up today. does anybody know the 400ex's normal operating oi temps?

Depends on the actual mods but the general temp for most people is around 200-250 from what I have read

Yeah it snapped off flush with the a arm. I was on the birm and my buddy decided to try and pass me on the inside and when I hooked coming out of it I stood it on the back right wheel and he slid right under me. Good thing is I had all my gear on and my kill switch I just installed worked. Bad news is a broken ball joint and my day at the track cut short. Im just happy that is all that happened though.:D

As I walked into the garage I glanced at it from a distance. I continued to gather pool supplies and realize that my quad is neglected. Flat tires, bent front wheels and all dirty/dusty. Eh dont even feel like going over to it to see what needs to be done so I didnt. Who wants to take care of my quad? Sad to see my lost interest because I wasnt finished with building it to what I wanted yet. I love riding but hate having to drive even 25 minutes to ride and hours getting ready. Wish i had 10 acres or so to just ride it out of my garage. The way it is in the garage makes it hard to work on or even wash it. My brother loves to take the trailer out and switch the quads so his is in front and on top of that lawn mowers, weed wackers, truck bumpers, his trucks' trailer hitch... are all in front of the garage door. just stupid the work to even wash it. its a day project to change the oil just because of all the climbing over and **** i have to move. havent even ridden or started the quad in over a month now. Havent looked at quad parts in a few weeks. I had a killer deal brand new all 4 wheels and tires for $270 I just had to set up a date and drive for 3 hours and they were mine. never called the guy back forgot about them and its already been a month. I visit the quad sites and it seems like the same old stuff and same questions asked and for the most part I know the answers to them. my trusted motivator Huevos movies the new ones are just garbage and a total let down. I got my spal fan and grab bar for my 08 400ex and my grab bar for my dads ds650.

Got the Spal fan installed accidently ordered a push instead of pull. Wired it up backwords and it works perfect!! couldnt be happier. Wired it into my key switch so it just runs all the time as long as the key is on. Didnt want to drill a hole in my plastics for a switch and as long as my bike is off no reason to cool it off.

My grab bar I have to take it to my shop to get it on as it requires a bit of work to get her done lol.

Grab bar on the ds is on and looks better the other was cracked and bent had to be changed lol.

whats factory spec? i've always set mine to 0.006".. just curious heard several different numbers and don't like the local honda dealer..

I have been on vacation all week and have been working on the bikes. Here is what I did:

Wifes bike changed the oil, filter, spark plug and cleaned the air filter

Did the same to mine.

For my sons graduation I did the following to his bike:

Tune up same as above. Installed new renthal handle bars, asv levers,grips, new bearing carrier, new axle lock nut, chain and sprockets, TONS of cleaning and polishing and painting. Planing on doing a complete build up after this season.

Drained the oil and replace the oil filter. Waiting on a oil tank to come in. Can't seem to get the bottom bolt to drain the motor oil out though. Is there anyway to get a stripped bolt out?

try vice grips.... this will fail... but you took a lil more metal off .. take a smaller socket it maybe standard or metric? hammer it on. don't break you case though! make sure you have a straight pull with a long handled ratchet. .. should work..

Just did the reverse start mod- clipped the gray wire/black stripe outta the box under the hood. Now when she's cold and doesn't like to idle, I can start in reverse.

I did the brakes front and rear on it the other night. Needed it bad, too. The pads were almost metal all around. Not quite, but close.

Did lots of crap to mine today. I installed my 250R xfactor grab bar, put my reverse cable back in and clipped the reverse cable off the cdi so it starts in reverse and lights up. I adjusted the rear brake. I installed a mini toggle switch on the dash for my fan. Its wired to the toggle and to the key so even if I forget about the toggle when the key turns off the fan turns off.

I did the spark plug mod as well figured if it dont work I will put the other one back.

Did a airbox today, all I ride is XC never hardly see any air so the alum box was a cool thing to add and makes cleaning easier lol. I got a Insane performance with lid on ebay for $70 not bad.

Installed today and removed lots of left over and un needed. Removed the case return to the air intake boot. Installed dual K&N filters there instead. Gives it a dif look and looks alot cleaner.

we clammed our trails back. we ride on about 250 acres and it never planted until this year. so we had to clear a new path. so after $100 in diesel and $145 in parts for the skid loader we are back in business and rode for 3 hours. its a total blast but its a one way trail cause all of the corners are totally blind cause of the corn. but the woods sections are the best.

Cleaned it real good, Looked at Zr's adapter, Straitened my bent nerfs, Dyed my webbing back nice and red, Torn down the sub frame; stripped and sanded it, and primed then repainted it. Changed Oil and filter, cleaned my airfilter, then took apart my carb and reassembled it. Now it won't start :grr:

Then rolled it into a corner partially assembled to sit for the rest of the week. :huh

Meticously (did i spell that right?) cleaned the bike, put my new white hood on and my new grap bar cause my crash i had earlier in the week broke them off lol. I hate buying parts that don't make you go faster..

Then i flushed my motor and changed the oil, checked tire pressure, went out and practiced for my race tomorrow with my race team, and then i got back and cleaned everything thing again, changed my oil again, cleaned the filter, and literally went through and checked every bolt, worked on my a arms adjusting the caster and what not, and i put a fresh set of tires on for the race tomorrow and i load the bikes, lol i am so pumped for tomorrow!

put some rtv sealant inbetween the cases at the bottom of the motor then i realized the leak might be coming from the clutch cover so tomarrow once the sealant dries ill put more oil in it and see where the problem is.

i had a cheaper one, had easy click adjuster, but the way it made it an easy pull like most is from the leverage point, however, from the different pivot the actual cable wore right into the lever perch, and through the adjuster. i think it was a magnum, they were cool enough to give me a new one, but still, it cause some clutch issues cause even at full pull it didnt fully disengage if set to proper freeplay.

I finally installed my ASV F3 Front Brake & Pro Clutch Lever Kit & my CCP Steering Stabilizer.
All I can say is wow what a difference they make, the levers feel great and definitely feel as though they help the brakes stop better, maybe there is a difference in the ratio that the lever applies force on the master cylinder. Also the clutch pull seams easier. As for the Steering Stabilizer, you can definitely feel a big difference, I rode for a bit today and tried a couple different setting over the same terrain. The bars dont seam to want to pull out of your hands in the tougher stuff. I am really looking forward to running the bike next weekend for a long period of time and see how it cuts down on overall fatigue.

no, i decided that that dealer still wanted too much, and the fact that they had bat and switched me once already, then dropped their trade in amount from 3500 to 2000 for BOTH my bike and quad, i said forget them.

Took off the chain and sprockets, ordered some new alloy sprockets and a gold x-ring chain. Wished whoever painted the frame before me did a better job, its flaking. Wished I had the time and money to tear it down and get everything on the sumbuck powdercoated and polished.

Looked at it through the window. It leaks oil so bad that I can't ride it anymore. Everytime I ride I would have to put 2 quarts in it and bring 3 more to keep it at the right level. So its just a looker right now. SUCKS:(

Had to change the sparkplug today. So i went by a few places nobody had em in stock so i ended up calling a few places and finally found one that had one. The toolkit didnt come with the bike so i had to hunt a deep welled socket down. I didnt search before i got a socket to realize that it takes a thin walled one so the one i bought wouldnt work. I ended up finding one in the lawnmower section that finally fit.

i finally got all the red clay crap off of mine from our trip to iron county a few weeks ago. i also evened out my rear fenders after a couple years of being lopsided, i evened out my duals so they're finally level, did a little trimming on the front fenders, tried to get my old trailtech endurance to work with no luck, drilled out the only remaining warning thing on the rear fenders, and used the new turtle wax "ice" polish on all the plastic.. that stuff is awesome :eek2:

Yep I know the left crankcase is cracked, then my buddy tired to weld it and blew a hole through it. Jb welded it a bunch of times and it keeps cracking and leaking. I'm done with it.

got ZR's adapter installed on my 450r carb, fabbed my own airtight plug for the H/S port, ( this cost me a grand total of .65 cents, as opposed to the $22.73 for a H/S plunger assembly from the "Stealership"), removed the heater assembly, and will go get the 450r throttle cable tommorow. I am considering how to remove the TPS and fabbing a custom block-off plate. Still need to trim/plug the upper vent port, and drill the side casting to relocate the vent. Should be ready for carb installation tommorow.

lets see... i SOLD my built 400ex today, for $2000cash.... the brothers had no real idea how to ride, but they at least recognized that they were gettin a swingin deal, and they were really happy. i got a quick lap around a small track with it while showing them it ran good before they started to test it out.

i was sad to see it go, but i have a new one that should be here this week, and hopefully should be badass.


and tri5ron, you could just leave the throttle position sensor on there it wont cause anything bad, just will have wire hangin. but you also may be able to sell it to someone who's went bad on the other hand.

now i started getting all my old ex parts together, im gonna start a parts box for sale with all the ex parts that i dont need anymore.


so, header, cam, valves, springs, probably a few clutches, stock carb jetted for full w-b e2 pro meg exhaust and K&N filter, along with the K&N filter and outerwear, the rest of the dynojet jet kit once i find that, and some other stuff that i have sitting around, easy pull lever and perch, parking brake cable and assembly....

Have you ever even riden this bike? It looks brand new!! LOL! I don't know how some people keep their bikes so clean, I tried for years to keep it spotless but gave up, its way to much work. I mean I wash my bike after every ride but not with a toothbrush. Plus in Oregon, it rains alot so there is quite a bit of mud sometimes.
