I got my daughter a set of AC Racing nerfs for her Typhoon 90. Install is straight forward, but I don't know how the nerfs themselves are held on the steel frame extensions that go in where the old nerfs came out. Am I supposed to drill a hole through the nerfs and extension and put a bolt through it? The kit came with 4 5/16 inch bolts that don't go anywhere else, but I don't want to put that big of a hole in the nerfs or extensions.

What solutions have you guys come up with that works better?

Thanks,
Chris

use the orginal hardware that came with the orginal nerfs.
drill a small hole to lock them on.
fyi you will want to spray the bottom of the heal gards with a rubber spray coating like under coat cause the nerfs vibrate very bad

Where did you order them from as I'm going to have to order a set soon as well.

R1Rob, I got them from a guy on this forum, his username is Chuck Dunn, easy to deal with.

smperf, I did use the stock hardware(4 bolts) to mount the extensions into the frame. The actual nerf bar needs to be fixed to the frame extensions. I guess I'll drill some 3/16" holes through the nerfs and extensions and put a grade 8 bolt to hold them on.

You don't have to bolt them to the extension. They can't go anywhere. As for the heel guards vibrating? We haven't had that problem and they've been our's for a year and a half.

I wanted to tell ya'll what I ended up doing and it worked great. I bought some 1/4 inch stainless bolts 3/4 inch long. I drilled and tapped a hole in each of the four main tubes through the nerf and into the extension. I loctited the four bolts in...end of worry. Now I know they aren't going anywhere and I didn't have to compromise the integrety of the extension by drilling all the way through it.

Only thing I found I don't like about these nerfs is that the inside of the nets don't attach to the frame. I like nerfs that go all the way to the frame, oh well, daughter loves them, so I'm happy.

They were new. Great price I must say, don't know if he has any more at that price, shot him a PM and check. His name and log on is "Chuck Dunn"

He doens't actually sell them. He had a set that he was trying to get rid of is all. Checked AC's site and they don't make a set of nerfs for the Xtreme miniquad. Probably was a set off of something like a DRR or TRX or something that matched up to the Xtreme.

From the Xtreme website: http://www.xtrememotorco.com/accessories/Default.aspx

Anyway he told me that he had a shop and had to close it down and was selling the stuff from home to get rid of it.

Now that you post that I have seen those on the Xtreme site before. But I wonder why AC has nothing about the Xtreme on their site if the make them?

I almost bought those nerfs from Chuck a few months ago. They were brand new, and less than half price. Decided I didn't need them right then and now I regret it. I noticed the same thing though. It is very odd that I looked all over after reading an old article on the then new xtreme with the ac nerfs and couldn't find where ac sold or even made them. But right there on Xtreme's website was the set-up I had been looking for.

Same motor (Jailing) just like the original Typhoon motor (Jailing) and just like your GPX (also a Jailing). Only difference, some companies get them and modify them with Inner Rotor Kit, Outter Rotor Kit, or lighten the stock flywheel. Some beef the parts up internally and then put their outer covers on them with their names. Looking at the outer covers they look different. You take the outer covers off and they're identical in terms of setup.
