Are the cr250r motors the same as the trx 250r?

no, not close. The only similarity is the 85/86 rod, left side crank half and some years used the same piston.

The reason I ask is me and a group all ride quads. My friend thought he wanted a dirtbike and bought a 2000 cr250r. He made a mistake and now wants a four wheeler. He wants to put the cr motor on a trx 250r frame. I told him I don't think it's possible but I would look in to it. So is this at all possible?

doing that will also be a mistake as the vibrations will be overwhelming.

he should try and trade someone for a quad. people are looking to get bikes these days. there is actually a huge thread on it here.

Its not a mistake. but you need to do the fab work right. a cr 250 right out of the box will make way more hp than a trx 250r motor will. left case is not the same on the cr because it has NO counterbalencer, the R does.

I told him the same thing trade or sell it and buy something. It would be alot easier and cheaper than trying to hunt 250r parts to go with the frame he wanted to buy from me.

service honda sell the 00-01 engines and putting them in 400ex chassis go to there site and check them out..this would be no different than a cr500 engiine..or a great big bore engine with vibration..i have one..works fine for me,,

have you looked at the price tag for the service honda trx250r? You could buy a real nice, mostly aftermarket trx250r and still have money left.
