hey man i may not know what oil to use but im no idiot..i got my filter. ive heard go with stock. so i picked one upfrom service honda for like 4.51. i had to order a cam chain tensioner and a clutch cover gasket so i figured i might as well.

anyyyywayyyyy... that is what the 400 calls for? i mean it will for sure be good right? lol i do not want to take any chances....first four stroke you see.

I use to use honda hp4, but switched to Mobil One 15w 50 synthetic. Just dont use any oil containing "moly". It will burn up your clutch. Use oil designed for wet clutches.

Most people on here run 10w40 in the colder months and 20w50 when it gets hot.

I just use the normal Honda oil the manual calls for.
You should pick up a 400EX owners manual ...

your right i should.

so what is the reason to run different oil in different temperature.

and would it matter if i ran 10w40 in hot weather?

It just helps it run cooler in the hot weather.

i run 0w30 in the winter cause it gets cold up here.its not as thick so it heats up quicker and keeps the engine warmer and use 10w40 in the summer cause its normally in th 70s or 80s

edit:your gonna need 2 bottles of oil

Im also stock bore. The 400 gets hot my man. Any extra cooling is greatly appreciated. For instance, sessioning some hill climbs, not much air flow is going on.

Do you think yours is running hot?

My 400 never really had that issue, but I always shut it off when just sitting or talking.

I never drained the crankcase oil when I did my oil changes. I was not away until I really read the clymers manual. But today I did prop the back up and hopefully the oiled moved to the front.

how bad is that? its had about 8 oil changes w/out draining the crankcase. I do keep up with maintenance and regular oil changes.
