?????????????????????????

is it slow revving or something?

are your tires spinning?

does it feel powerful?

what kind of exhaust?

my 416 beats piped 400's with 14 tooth sprockets by about 3-4 quads in a 100 yard drag

what is your valve clearance set at, is your throttle opening all the way, is it restricted on the intake or exhaust somewhere. your timing? cdi?

You might have good clutch springs, but are the plates slipping? What about your jetting? What size tires? 18, 20, or 22 in
I would check the clutch plates 1st. Do a ride test to see if they are slipping. My 440 will run dead even with a pipped Raptor.

I would almost guarantee it is a clutch issue.

how does your spark plug look ? maybe your to rich or lean does it feel good down low and stops pulling up top or just not pulling at all i would put your 16th or 15th sprocket and leave it while trying to find your problem if thats your friend with a stock 400 use him to compare the changes you make jetting ,air box lid etc i would check my plug first and see if its running rich or lean but that fcr should be pretty close let us know how it turns out and what you find...also i like to make 1 change at a time so i know what helped or hurt me........................

nice response guys....
lets do the easy bits first. fmf power bomb 4. umi filter, competition clutch and springs, valves set at 4 in 5 outlet as told .by your good selfs.mind u i have done it in metric. 0.10/0.13. same thing i ope.. mx cam. ported head. buy well recomended machine shop never had problems there b-4.. air filter lid removed.
also got remapped cdi..tryed original in case it was duff again it was the same.

as for runing pulls as it did b-4 all through the range no dead spots no spinning tyres, running 20"n razors. .tryed it again with original carb running 185 main jet still the same fcr was done by dealer i bought it from an jetted for mew mods or should be pretty close .plug with both carbs nice golden tan colour..so again seams fine..
got to be the gearing surely..or am i just **** at riding it!!!! nah pretty good me think so ide not off spent all that money
recomendation on gearing plz guys what do u think for fast trail riding??? was running 16/37 as standard piped engine??

I XC raced mine and use a 14 tooth front. the low end is unbelievalbe. With your high gearing you might be getting smoked on the start by a stock quad.

What kind of compression are you running? This is important with that hotter cam and larger carb.

11:1 compression.

is there a chance your cam timing is off?? that you may have the timing chain one link off?

have you tested the leakdown?

I still think that your clutch is slipping from what you are saying. To check it, go for a ride in 4 or 5 gear. Open the throtle up real fast and see if it makes noise before it starts to go faster or does it pick up right away? If you hear the engine rev up before it starts to move faster the plates are slipping.
I have found that with my 440 I have to run a 16T up for because of all the power and to get the most out of the top end. Just my opion but the 14T is to low for a built engine. will cause the clutchs to wear out very fast because of the extra power and then you have no top end speed.

defo no clutch slip.has plenty off grunt and feels right but not any quicker .than it was b4. just been back in engine chain not off on cam either....weird/

ig you installed your base gasket you most likely have 10.0 or less.

Do you have a wiesco or a je piston ...

SORTED IT!!!! CHANGED GEARING 15/38 STD I BELEIVE ALSO TO MUCH OIL ON FILTER SMOKED HIM GOOD 3- 4 LGTHS B4 WE RUN OUT A ROOM

did use base gasket that came with the kit.should i remove it? thought piston would hit head if i did that? what do u seal it with once removed? instant gasket i presume beleive it is a wiseco piston...

much better grunt now though. fighting with the front end.from the off well impressed now.no dought ive lost some top end minus that 16 front but not really after top end when trail riding..

many thanx for all u r adsvise guys.much appreciated big time!!!!!

nother question can u change u r log in name??

E....If your running the base gasket and have not decked your jug your probably running close to stock compression and just a bigger bore. I went though all this building my 440 and had to go back and deck the jug to get correct compression and then was very happy with the results and thing to that helps in the right head gasket, Cometic makes 2 sizes stock that you get in the kit or a thinner on that is .025 or so compared to the other at .047
Hope all this helps.......Its all trial and error till you get it right

I have the wiseco 11:1 big bore kit. With the supplied gaskets (.020 base and .040 head) my actual compression ratio came to 9.6:1. What a bummer!

My bike flew though. Be cautioned, I scuffed a sleeve running the 175 main jet-to hot. With the below mods @ sea level, a 180 main jet is safer.

You have a few solutions to get to the 11:1. Deck the cylinder, or get a .012 base and .025 head. This will get you close to the 11:1.

Do a search on "decking"

Maybe I didnt read throughly enough, but did you check the adjustment of your throttle cable?

The first year I had my bike, my throttle cable was getting stretched and I was slowing down without realizing it. One day, i dragged my buddies stock 400 (mine was stock at the time also) and he smoked me. Thats when I realized something was amiss.
