im doing a top end rebuild with an 11:1 stock bore piston. will the stock cam work ok right now, dont have the money for a hot cam yet. will be going to a stg1 for low end torque.

i have a big bore 440 with a 12.5-1 ratio, and i used stock cam for a year after i got the bore kit done. I had no probs with using the stock cam but i recently put the stage 2 hotcams in and wow what a difference, my 440ex tears it up now!! Save your money quick to upgrade to the hotcams!!

I run a stage 1 hotcam with an 11.1 :1 wiesco piston. It is bored but only .020 over.

stage 1 would be good for low and 2 would be good for high. either will be a great combo with that much compression. steve

I'd go with a stg 2

you should seriously consider putting in the HD studs at the same time you put in the new, higher compression piston.

Even with the stock cam.

plenty of people here have learned this the hard way, and it becomes much more costly, if you strip a headbolt out of the engine, due to the higher compression.

higher performance is great, but if you dont do it right the first time, ...
you will cause more damage, and cost yourself more money, in the long run.

It's just one of those old,...
Pay now,... or Pay MORE later, situations.

read up on some of the other threads about what others have gone through when a headbolt snaps or gets pulled out, and I'm sure you'll want to avoid those problems.

not trying to pick on you,... just trying to let you know before you cause, and cost yourself unnecessary cash.

^ AMEN. though i never really had any catastrophic events with mine, i never would have blown a head gasket in the middle of our trip 1000 miles from home.

x3 with the studs it wouldbe a good idea and stage 2 would be great instead of the stage 1. steve

make that x4.

i had to install studs back in the day.

granted i was running a 440 at 11.5:1 but still. its cheap insurance
