I was thinking about relocating the battery
what i thought is making an aluminum box big enough for all the electronics and use sheet metal and stuff the bolt it up? good or bad idea. i would put it right behing the airbox. thanx for ur input

i did it, mine is mounted on solid. i asked a few people what they thought after i was done and they said the only thing could be if someone hit it u would lose ur battery. heres a pic.

i heard some bad things about relocating it, one being it won't be as strong and people have problems with it breaking out, thats why i opted not to do it, lemme know how it turns out though ..

If you're gonna relocate it you should put it up front like mine. I don't have any pics, I'll try to get some today. It will sit in between the frame rails, on top of the front shock mounts. JB Racing sells a bolt on kit to do this for $50. It is definetly the way to go!

if ur talkin about mine, it is sturdy. no matter how much i yank on it or anything it wont move. the battery is in there snug too. my only fear is that someone may end up clippin it with a tire. im gonna look into movin it up front yet.

Sorry guys....I didn't get the pic yet. The quad is at a buddy's house, I'll try to get one before the weekend. JB Racing doesn't have a web site, but Hetrick Racing sells all of his product, a-arms, swingarms, etc.

Hows it been holding up so far? Have you raced with it? Have you done any good size jumps wiht it?

Maybe I am missing something, but wouldn't having the battery there block the airflow to the oil cooler, and make the motor run hotter?

Looks scary to me.... I'd keep it in the air box.....

i have ridden with it some, and so far so good, havent raced or jumped anything big yet. that will come next weeked, Jan. 10, 11, and 12. i will report back as to how its holding up. and i agree with rippinitup7 looks like it would block a lot of air flow, but if it is mounted high enough, would i work with aftermarket plastics? i dont know, i may look into mountin it up there somewhere if my current location doesnt hold up.

what all is involved in relocating the battery in this position? I definatlly want to move it... was thinking about the aluminum air boxes but I don't think it is worth almost 200 bux just to move the battery... anyone have a step by step on relocating it to the front? how do you run the wires... etc... any input will be greatly appreciated...

Anyone with an aluminum airbox race MX? I was wondering if there would be any interference with a CFM airbox and the swingarm when a ZPS rear shock in involved. Anyone have any input? Thanks.

i did mine for 4 reasons
1) makes the fenders go on sooo much easier
2) a lot easier to get to the battery to charge/jump it
3) i was going to get rid of my lid anyway
4) it looks tits

i dont race or anything so i cant say how they hold up in those conditions, but i felt it was way worth it

I'm going to be buying a CFM, and I'm just wondering if there will be any interference with the swingarm and the airbox when jumping.

mounting it up front is the way to go... if u put it in the airbox, its 2 much weight pulling down the airbox when u jump...\

when its up front it very secure,

i used the stock battery box, and welded tabs to my frame for the box to bolt up. And its not movin'!!!

Have any pictures of your battery relocation setup? Maybe some with and without the front plastic on? Would it work with a Maier front hood installed on stock plastic? Thanks.

Cool. Thanks. I was going to get a CFM, but I owe my college money for this semester, so I can't afford it.:( I want to do the battery relocation setup like yours since it's almost free. Definetely post those pics so I can see how it works. Thanks.

Looks awesome. How did you do it? Buy a relocation kit, or do it yourself?

crap-banshee32
01-24-2004, 05:02 PM
did it myself...all free

stock battery box, and i welded tabs to the frame where the holes in the batter box were, then bold it up
put the battery in the box and i used a large hose clamp to hold it in there...and its not going no where:)

I just sent you a PM and asked for some more info, but you pretty much summed everything up just now. Also, what did you use for the tabs? Thanks for the info.

putting the battery there.... does it block air flow to the oil cooler?

DantheEXman
01-25-2004, 03:34 PM
yeah I think the battery is MUCH better off where it comes stock rather than up fromt. All your doing is blocking the oil cooler. Thats not good.

Im looking into a CFM.

WKY400EX

I don't think that airflow would be blocked to the point of causing overheating problems. I would imagine if you had some scoops installed, it would help the airflow blockage a lot.
