Fired up the wheeler today with the second kick like always, let her idle and revved her up a few times and she just died, no sounds, no smells, no nothing, just up and died, now it won't start at all.

I have spark and put in a new plug to be safe, everything seems to be connected. When i was trying to kick it over it occasionally back fired real loud. plenty of gas in it also lol...any ideas where to start? Thanks

I wouldn't expect it to be blown up if it started and you didn't ride it at all but it is always possible. Run a compression test.

I know in the past when any of my friend's 2 strokes have blown up they backfire the most god awful high pitch sound ever when you kick them over a bunch of times.

float could be stuck, flooding it with fuel. would cause an occasional backfire as well.

are you getting gas to the engine or just to the carb?

had a very similar thing happen just this past weekend to my buddies ATC at the track. only way it would start is with full choke. as soon as the choke was off it would die. turned out that the needle clip had broken and dropped the needle. good thing i wasnt busy with the boys at staging and heard the rukess from a far. after further inspecting later at the shop, i discovered they had dang near seized it from being lean. :eek2:

what i would do is perform a compression check as mentioned, inspect the carb en reeds ect ect.

check your flywheel key and your reeds.

tell me about it lol

how much do you think i'm looking at spending? I wonder what all needs to be replaced, that is pretty weak that a few little revs made something blow...I'd of rather been goin 80mph ride open instead of sitting in one spot.

?????? I don't think a fly wheel key would give me a compression reading of 85-90 ?????

no problem gommer...thanks for the ideas guys

I'm gonna take the motor out tomorrow night and see what the damage is...hopefully it just needs new rings and honing and not a resleeving and piston and the whole works.

you know if you dont hold the throttle wide open when you do the compression test, it will show abour 90 pounds of comp. Try holdin it open and seeing what happens. a pison does not go by by that fast unless there is no oil mixed in the gas. and even like that its a little far stretched.

Yeah I held the throttle wide open when I did it, I didn't want to believe it so I tried it like 4 times. Pretty sure somethin in there is messed up unless the compression tester is junk which I doubt.

I did notice some tiny cracks in my intake boot, maybe I was sucking in to much air....a question I have is would that make the compression not as high as it should be when I'm testing it?

Well I have some scuffs on my piston and the rings are worn flush against the piston on one side but stick out on the other side....the cylinder looks good though.
