I just bought this 04 KFX 400 and the previous guy put a G Force axle on it.... I noticed this nut spinning and just want to make sure this is normal? I think this is the adjustment for width?

Hmmmmm...... Any ideas why it is doing that or how to stop it?

To be honest with ya I don't know how them lock nuts work. I'm sure somebody can help ya out though.

Guess I'll tear into it and see... Thanks

Oh yea that isn't an adjustment for width. It locks your axle in place so it doesn't move up & down or side to side inside your bearing carrier. Try putting this in the kfx400 forum also.

I think this bike was wrecked hard because some of the plastic mounts are broken, the handle bars were bent and the rear axle was changed. Tranny does a little dance when letting the clutch out in first too....
Of course I bought it for $2000 so I'm not complaining.

I put the exhaust on and an FMF jet kit.... also new handle bars

I do not have any experience with the kfx but you are correct, that nut should not spin. Do not ride it like that, will eat up your carrier bearings and maybe tweak the swinger.

That nut is the axle pinch nut. Which pinchs the swingarm keeping the axle from moving side to side. Take the nut and tighten it to mfg. spec. Then there is a set screw. Little screw that will pinch the giant nut together. Tighten that and give it little locktite. Then make sure the axle has no side to side or front to back play.

Ok... So I went ahead and took the axle out to inspect everything....Bearings look/feel ok.
Is there a special grease to go back with or will autozone wheel bearing grease be ok?
Also, would anyone happen to know the torque specs for the pinch nut? I don't have a manual .....

Thanks again...
The rear brakes were down to metal but only in one corner of the pad?? I order new pads and while I was at it I got a new chain/sprocket kit cause I'm sure this is the stocker on here.

Did you check the splines on the axle or the sleeve that the lock washer goes on to? I have seen where they get sheered off then spin. At that point its either a new axle or axle nut setup.

They're fine... I think the person that put the axle in just didn't tighten the pinch bolt enough.
